My daughters & I were watching a bear out of window this morning. Today was garbage pick up day & he was helping himselft to the buffet that was set before him. He was a very big bear...300 - 500 pounds & I don't think he was full grown either.
We watched as he picked through a garbage can & ever so gently selected what he wanted to eat. The he moved over to the nexy garbage can & picked out a small tub of something, carried it over to grassy area & ate it then came back for more.
I called a police non emergency line & the police showed up & sort of scared him away by driving up as close as they could get to him. The reason I call them in the 1st place is that there are a lot of people that walk/jog on this road...including myself & I was concerned for their safety.
The police left & the bear came back & helped himself to our garbage can next. He ate only a few things before the police came back. He watched the police car get closer then he wandered off around the back of our house & continued on through my neighbors yards.
Below is a pick of the bear behind the white car sniffing @ the garbage can.

I then had to go out & clean up the mess he left behind. I felt so nervous as I kept looking around to see if he was coming back to finish his meal. Later on my daughters & I left since I had to take my 8 yr old to camp. We drove around the block & found the bear making his was to the lake. I guess he was thirsty after all his binge eating.

This totally happen to us. I think it's scary, but when you live in an area surrounded by bears, what can you do. My daughters' asked why he wasn't eating the fish and looking for berries, I had to say, trash is easier to hunt.
