Is it just me or have any of you experienced this new montra of sportmanship: where competition in not about winning or loosing it's about fairness to all parties involved.
I get this is in toddler soccer or t ball. It's more for fun and it's a great way to exert some extra energy. What is bothering me is the fact it seems to be continuing into the pre teen sports. Last year at one of my sons chess matches there were no winners or losers. They said instead achievers and learners! My son looked at me and said "are they serious?" when he heard this. Then at a choir we don't have competitions anymore it's just one big recital of all the schools. In sports it seems we either have the winning is everything team or the "fairness" team to choose from. Why is it so taboo these days to teach kids how to play the game and do your best? That losing happens and winning is a reward for a job well done?
My kids know they won't win every game but they still want to try. Like most kids they love winning and they hate loosing. But isn't that why we should be teaching our children how to be good sports and how to learn from loses? I think that is a far more valuable lessen in life then leading them to believe "Everyone always wins".
Is this the next thing in our PC world where we start teaching that competetion is bad!

I'm in southern Texas where sports, especially football, are huge. But in the last two years when I put my four kiddos in sports or activities this seems to be the norm. I don't know why if it's the parents who are influencing the schools and sports leagues because they can't handle healthy competition for there children or if it's some new mentality that we want to discourage competition.
But it's happening. At first I saw it in small doses when I only had one or two involved but now with four and multiple activities it seems pretty rampant.
