Once upon a time it was "beautiful" to have curves. True beauty was all over the big screen. Women were proud to have voluptuous curves. When did it become sexy to look like a ten year old boy with a crack addiction? Let me give you some examples...

This is what true beauty used to look like, what it SHOULD look like..

Ginger Rogers.

(p.s. Cindy Crawford has never EVER been less than a size 6)

Ann Margret.

Cloris Leachman.

Elizabeth Taylor.

Judy Garland.

Rita Hayworth.

Sophia Loren.

All of these women were curvy. They had meat on their bones. They had BOOBS! (Real ones!) More and more in the media you see pictures of emaciated women, I like to call them Heroine addict chic. These are the women we are told we should look like. I'm sorry, as a woman, I'd like to LOOK like a woman! Not a starving little boy, desperately in need of a cheeseburger! Let's take a look at a few examples of ten-year-old-boy-with-a-crack-addiction-sexy...

Tara Reid, eating disorder + botched plastic surgery = Oh so sexah! *gag, choke, cough*

The Olson Twins, Double the disorder, double the FUN!

Calista Flockhart, Needs an Ally McBLT!

Kate Bosworth, From Blue Crush to well... just, CAUTION: Easily Crushed.

Keira Knightley. Curse of the Dead Man's Chest? I think they may be on to something!

Lara Flynn Boyle.. She used to be the owner of the Montecito Casino/Hotel on the t.v. show Las Vegas. That is, until she blew off the roof in a gust of wind. Irony? I think not.

Nicole Richie... During sex her chest doubles as a xylophone! (Her rock-star boyfriend can multi-task!) Would that make her "Ribbed for His Pleasure"?

And the Creme de la Creme.. Paris Hilton. Further proof that you really DON'T NEED TO HAVE ANY TALENT WHATSOEVER to be Famous!

I used to be ashamed of my imperfections. A jiggle here, a roll there... But the more I think about it the more I realize that I'd rather have some junk in my trunk than look the way Hollywood says I "should" look. These women are not sexy. Not by any stretch of the imagination, ESPECIALLY when you compare them to the women that came before them! I'll take my real boobs over their surgically enhanced mosquito bites ANY DAY! I don't need to go under the knife to make myself feel pretty... Plastic surgery is becoming a joke! Instead of enhancing women's beauty they come out of it looking like fish lipped, martians that are always surprised about something! (But that's another journal)

Thoughts?

********************

OH I also wanted to add, the reason I used Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe as examples, comparing them to people like Nicole Richie and Paris hilton was not because being a drug addict or alcoholic is any better than starving ones self. I used them because they had something Nicole and Paris will never have. TALENT.

Too true and I strongly agree with your point, well there is such a thing as too big there is also such a thing as too skinny. It's sad to see the stars who are slammed for having put on weight and made to feel horrible about themselves. It disgusts me to read entertainment magazine and hear how women are forcing themselves to lose weight because the media has slammed them for being healthy.

We should all also notice that in the sexiest pictures of those stars, they're wearing clothes!!  I'm so sick to death of seeing those females who look like the Cryptkeeper and are half-naked.  Yeah, real sexy to see those knobby knees and flat chests.

I totally agree with you there. Then again though, Audrey Hepburn WAS as skinny as any of the starlets nowadays, heh. But at least she kept her stuff covered... If I see one more "crotch shot" of some D-list chick getting out of a car not wearing any underwear, I'm going to vomit.

I want to know WHO in the media started this garbage and WHAT do these writers look like in person!! This is a BIG issue with me. I am on a major diet and feel bad about myself. According to the weight charts my BMI is EXACTLY where it should be and my weight is EXACTLY right YET I look fat!! WHY?? Because I have skinny girls thrown in my face everyday.

Do you remember recently when Jennifer Love Hewitt was ALL OVER the gossip pages for being FAT in a bikini in Hawaii??? I searched for the page expecting a HUGE blimp and THIS is what she looked LIKE!!! She quickly lost 20 pounds when the story broke. WHAT was WRONG with the way she looked in this photo???

What's more--are any of the "waifs" as talented as their curvey counterparts?

I blame the downward spiral on Twiggy.  She came to the fore front of fashion in the late 60s and early 70s.

Before her it was the Marilyn Monroe, Jane Mansfield types that were the typical pin ups and stuff of teenaged boys dreams.

i could have written this journal, im so in sync with you!    great post!!!!    its part of what attracts me to the 40's and 50's era...women were so feminine and beautiful.   it amazes me that i get dirty looks in my knee length dresses and theres girls running around the same store with skirts so short the pockets hang out.... never ceases to amaze and sometimes even infuriate me...lol!   another great post as always... jenn =.)

We are our own worst critics. It took years for me to feel good about me to finally understand my body and to appreciate my body. Even though I do take better care of myself I still like to have my favorite foods like nachos, french toast and candy.
