Fay, Fay, Go Away! (w/photos)

Well, today was "D" day for me, as Fay stalled off the Florida coastline before moving at a whopping 2 miles per hour across the state. There was plenty of rain and wind, but nothing too bad. For most of the day, it was a constant, heavy curtain of misty rain, punctuated by sudden diagonal and horizontal downpours.

As the storm finally made landfall, the heavy wind and rain really picked up! I was a bit nervous listening to all the airborn pinecones and tree branches pelt my roof. It sounded like a herd of tap-dancing cattle up there!

Schools and government offices were closed, but most companies (mine and hubby's included) took a "business as usual" attitude. As the storm started to pick up (about 3:30pm), hubby's company finally decided to let its employees go home before the city closed all the bridges in town. My company...well, since most employees were able to work from home, we were expected to work.

Just a few minutes before hubby pulled into the driveway, however, we lost power. "Oh darn!" I thought, "Power's out, so I can't work anymore. Guess I'll have to take a nap while Alyssa sleeps." LOL! It was the most quiet and restful sleep I've had in a very long time! EXACTLY what I needed!

All in all, we were without power for about an hour and a half. Then the power went out again after dinner. We waited an hour as the house started to get a little on the warm side, and then hubby  fired up the generator. Just as he was plugging in the last extension cord, the lights came back on. Ha! Poor hubby! Oh well, it was a good practice drill.

Anyway, here are a few pics for those of you interested. I wasn't brave enough to leave the dry safety of my doorway, but you get the idea.

This is one of the many branch projectiles that finally came to rest in the river of water in front of my driveway:

This is when it started raining down debris from the trees. Not a very clear picture, but there were at least a dozen branches in the yard within the first hour of the "heavy" part of the storm.

This is my normally very dry flower bed right in front of the walkway to our porch:

Yep, Looks all too familiar to me. Kind of what I went through a couple of weeks ago with that storm Eduardo. I'm glad you didnt have any troubles, at least all the brittle stuff got knocked from the trees for now. I hope things get better there. Its been raining here so much its unreal. Terrible storms the past few days. Thanks for putting the pictures up, I really enjoyed seeing for myself. Hope your night is great!

Yeah, about 8:30pm last night we finally started getting some good wind gusts here.  Don't think we've had too many limbs down yet....but we don't have a LOT of trees close to the house....and Rhanyn won't let me go out back to see what the woods look like, lol!  Thankfully, we have a covered front porch that is sheltered some by the garage....so most of my plants have escaped unscathed....the flower beds, a whole 'nother story!

That last picture of your flower beds have nothing on our back yard ;o) Our whole back yard is flooded. I'll add pictures soon. Thank god we don't live in the other apt where our neighbors are at, or our house would have water in it.
