What can you really say when you hear someone has lost a loved one? My niece, who is 17 and to whom I'm extremely close with, texted me early this morning to let me know her great- grandmother passed away. She shared a special bond with her great-grandmother and I know she is hurting.

I  always think I sound like a blubbering idiot when I try to comfort someone who has lost a loved one. I could only chalk up "I'm so sorry Hailey."

*sigh*

Im the same way.  What do you say though?  Sorry and Im here for you is really about the only thing there is to say.  You can't take away the pain negate the loss.... which is what makes me uncomfortable.  The fact that there is nothing i can do proactively about the situation.  Just be there for her.

You are so right here there is never anything that you can say that is going to make it better.

Just letting her know that you are there for her is the best thing she could have right now.....

I agree..since  you are extremely close with her than you just giving a comforting hug or telling her you love her and if she needs you, you are there. There is not much you can say when you lose a loved one.

Girlie, don't stress!! You are a sweetheart and anything you do will be loving.
