My 17 month old son weights 19 pounds the most ever! He is way under the chart and he doesnt seem to grow much. Ever since he was 9 months old and eating baby food he started to poop lose stools all the time like 5 or 6 times a day. At first i thought teething then as it got closer to him being 1yrs old i noticed he was still pooping all the time. So when i took him to the doc we discovered he was way under weight. They ran lots of stool test and blood test they even took a sweat test to test him for something bad. All test can back positive so we were happy on that point except we knew something was wrong. So we had to bring him to the doc every week until he gained like 6 or 7 ounces then after that we would see the doc about once a month. He has gained maybe 2 pounds since 1yrs old but still way under the chart. They sent us to the GI doctors and now they want us to come back at the end of september to possiable do a biotopsy to see if he has CELIAC (where their small intestine cant digest GLUTEN) were hoping hes just a picky eater b/c he only eats every very little a day but that wouldnt explain all the poop.......Does anyone have a child w/ celiac or know anyone w/ it to give me some signs or explain to me more then a computer or a doc.

No, I've never heard of it but all those symptoms sound just like my daughter.  She is 16 months old and 19 pounds and never seems to gain any weight.  But the pediatritian told us not to worry that she is healthy?  So we stopped worryiing about it.  But boy oh boy, her stools are horrible!  Loose and the volume is huge!!  Not be disgusting, but they are.. lol  Let me know what you find out.  I'll be sure to ask more when we go to the doc next time too.  Good luck!!

my son is 3 weighing in at 26lbs.

We went for a biopsy a few months ago to see if he had celiac disease, they did the blood levels and they werent conclusive.

We now think he has a wheat intolerance.

Yes, I was just diagnosed with the disease in March.  Since I was 17, I had awful stomach pains.  The doctors thought I had acid reflux.  But, when my medicine still wasn't working, I had another endoscopy done.  That's when the doctor discovered damage to my intestines.  They did a biopsy, then sent me for blood testing.  They concluded I had Celiac Disease.  It's been very hard to adjust my diet since then.  I was a vegetarian, so I ate a lot of sandwiches and gluten-heavy products.  After awhile, I realized vegetarianism was basically impossible when I had to limit gluten as well.  Now, I have a 3 page list of the food ingredients that may contain gluten.  And, shopping or eating out is a horrible chore.  However, this is something I'm adjusting to.  There is no cure for Celiac Disease, just to maintain a gluten-free diet.  Hopefully, your child will not have this.  If they do, though, my best advice to you is to buy as many books and cookbooks on the matter as possible!  Good luck!  If you have any questions, I'd be glad to help!

My son was just like yours.  He is now about to be two but after starting the gluten-free diet he got better in just a matter of days.  He got a lot better with a few weeks.  At a year old he was 16 lb7oz.  We to had to take him for a sweat test to rule out CF.  He is about to be two and is 21 pounds.  My son didn't want anything but his bottle for a long time.  To keep him safe we had to change how everybody in the house eats.  Cooking seemed hard at first and sometimes still is but most of the time cooking is about the same.  Its the eating out that is hard.  But know how to talk to people helps with that.  They have to understand what happens to help you keep it from happening.  Thank God for McDonalds fries.  Bagged alone they are safe.  There fry oil is only for the fries but it is safe to be sure nobody has put anything else in there.   We to see a GI doc and he is great.  It is late so I have to go but if you have any more questions feel free to ask I will be glad to help.  I know it can be hard but once you have a better feel for what to do it will be a lot easier.  Good Luck.
