Why is the younger generation so afraid of birth?

Really, its a valid question I pose today. Why so afraid? I just don't get the logic.
I understand being afraid of a c-section, because like I always say, it IS MAJOR surgery. But why be afraid of a beautiful, natural birth?

It is the way our bodies were meant to birth.
Have you ever stopped to think that all these medical interventions that people are putting smack dab in the middle of their births is what is causing the increase in pain?

  • Pitocin contractions hurt more than normal, natural contractions.
  • Epidurals are extremely painful to get put in.

Maybe everyone can help me to understand this, or shed some insight on why people opt for the more painful births when they are terrified of birth to begin with?

I couldn't speak for any other woman- but I was afraid because I felt so alone.  The only people who seemed ready and available to answer any of my questions and hold my hand every step of the way were DOCTORS... The same doctors who laughed at me and told me what a big mistake I'd be making if I attempted birth naturally.  So you can imagine I wasn't too confidant in my ability to give birth.

I was a selfish 17 year old and I honestly didn't want to feel the pain of the huge child coming out of me. I got an epidural, pitocin, an oxygen mask, an iv; my baby got an iv, an o2 saturation monitor on his foot, and 3 days in the nursery. I'm actually quite lucky I didn't have a c-section... 15 more minutes of pushing and I would have been moved to the OR. That's why I'm doing everything differently this time. I'm going all natural, and I'm so excited to see what my body can do once it's liberated.

I'm 19, I had my DD when I was 18.  I wasnt afraid of birth.  But I'm TERRIFIED of having a C-section.(Im not pregnant, just my fear when I am). My Dr gave me the option of pitocin or a C-section.(b/c I wasnt progressing fast enough)  I chose pitocin.  Then I couldnt handle the contractions BECAUSE of the piitocin!  So I got an epidural, which only worked for about, an hour.  So THAT was for nothing!  Then they said, "Well we think your going to have to have a C-section any ways, babies heart rate keeps dropping with contractions"  I told them HELL NO! and because hysterical(I was pathetic! lol)
Turns out I pushed for 30 mins out she came PERFECTLY HEALTHY! and no c-section!  Her heart rate was dropping because the ambilical cord was attatched to the placent in a weird place.(So the drs told me)  There was NOTHING wrong with my baby that warrented a c-section!
I rubbed that in the Dr.s face
