Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I sit here trying to choose a college for my children. Okay, not really. But, I feel like I am! I am trying to pick school picture packages for my 5 school age children.

Yes, it is that time of year--school picture day is this week!

As I study the totally ambiguous brochure only one thing is certain-my head hurts! I am a college graduate for goodness sakes! Why can't I figure this blasted thing out!

Do I want the Best Value?-Parent Pak?-Most Popular?-Basic Picture Packages? There are 8 packages to choose from and the less expensive "ala cart" is only available if you order from one of the overpriced packages first.

After determining which heading I want, I need to figure out do I want the Premier package which includes the digital retouching plus 16 additional exchange prints? And then I have to decide which subheading I want-deluxe-classic-standard? But the deluxe doesn't offer additional exchange prints. The classic says no retouch but doesn't mention the additional exchange prints. Standard doesn't offer additional exchange prints or retouch...hmm, does it even mention getting any pictures with this package?

The sad thing is I don't even like the school pictures most of the time. (Shh, don't tell my kids!) They are ordinary, bordering on goofy photographs. Heck, sometimes I deny that the child in the picture is even mine...just kidding.

But, seriously, how hard is it for the photographer to line my child in the middle of the picture? Isn't it kind of important to have the entire child in the photo? Or how about checking to see if the child's eyes are open and tongue correctly positioned in the mouth?

And, yet, here I sit, stressing-struggling with my indecision. What to do? What to do!

Which outrageously expensive package will I choose this year? Because I know I will...I will purchase something. It's like I have been programmed...a voice is whispering in my head it is your motherly duty to buy your children's school pictures.

Yes, mother's guilt is more powerful than the grim reality that I will spend an exorbitant amount of money on something that I really don't want or need. Who needs college anyway...sorry kids!

On the bright side, at least I will have something to embarrass my children with when they get older.

That too, is my motherly duty...

mommy...

Been there!!  Done that!!  I settle for the smallest package available (the one with the yearbook and a 5x7 for $15.00) and then I load him up...take him to JC Penney and pay for pictures I actually get to see first!!  :-)  That's what I pass out to family.  The school portrait is for scrapbooking only!

I do not purchase the school photos.  The one year I did, they were hidieous!   I take my own -- and take them to the local pharmacy that offers packages.    For as little as $7 I can have 8x10, 5x7's, wallets etc.    My kids have come to expect mom to take their pics and we have fun doing it.       Kara will be in 6th grade this year and we're already talking about her senior pics -- we are going to head up north to Mackinaw so she can have the bridge in the background of some!   :)  Maybe even to Chicago for a Navy Pier shot too!    We're willing do make it fun.

I paid for a year book last year that was a joke.  I even told the principal that it was not worth the $$$$ and I would not buy another until they are in HS.

You'd think they could actually get people who care, who do a good job..............and our school uses a local photographer.  She's a rip off!
