Original is Trust Your Mechanic by the Dead Kennedys, lyrics changed by a friend - this is something I've been meaning to write up for the better
part of a year now, I think of it every time I hear this song. One of
my family's pastimes when I was a kid was making up alternate lyrics
for songs and I thought this one was perfect.
OB invents a disease
You think you have
So you get your epidural
And soon you depend on it
Pain is in your mind
Gotcha comin' back for more
Again and again and again and again
Gonna cut you open
Cut you open
Doctor says you need a surgical birth
Baby's healthy, but the side effects
Fuck up something else
You're ensnared by the medicine man
Paying through your uterus
Again and again
Gonna cut you open
Trust your OB to manage your labor
Birth in the hospital
He breaks your water and gives pitocin
One thing's fixed, another falls apart
And the rich eat you
The OB says your labor won't progress quite right
Unless you consent to that episiotomy tonight
Never cough again
Unless you're wearing your Depends
Again and again and again and again
Gonna cut you open
Told you're depressed
When you come in for your postpartum check
Right as he says, 'be thankful the baby's healthy!'
Doc gives you Prozac
It fucks your head up worse
Gotcha feeling helpless
You're comin' back for more
Again and again
Gonna cut you open
Cut you open
Trust your OB
To make you well
You're seeing an awful lot of him now
The quicker he makes your life fall apart
The more money you put in his pockets
Trust your OB
To manage your labor
Trust him to make more
Somewhere else
Trust your OB
He'll always come through
And cut you open

Kim, please read the above. I did not write this.
As for finding a new OB, I am taking the midwife route this time around. I have already started seeing her. I had a great Gyno before I got pregnant but they do not do pre natal care, so I had to switch. I love the midwife I am seeing.
Unfortunately not everyone has the same experiences. I have met lots of women since I had Camden that feel like I do, and in some cases feel worse than I do. Which is one of the major reasons why I started ICAN in CT. After going through it myself, I knew there was a need for it in the state, and in the short time we have been "established" as a chapter, we have reached out and helped quite a few women.
I don't expect everyone to feel the same way I do, or to even read what I have to say.
