There is a WAR going on!

It started today.  There is a piece of property that causes much upheaval and contention between the opponents.  War is a complex social phenomenon, characterised by organised and reciprocal violence between social units.I don't know how organized this war is, but it definitely has reciprocal violence.

What important piece of property is this you ask?

Well, that would be my lap.  Yes, the 2 foot by 24 inches that only exits when I am sitting down.  This is heaven on earth and there are two little people that can not exist if they are not on it at all times that it exists.

As soon as I sit down the war starts.  One want on my lap and the other one sees this and starts barreling toward us.  She is just learning how to walk, so crawling is MUCH faster, plus it allows her to put her head down for maximum impact.

At this point I realize what is happening and don't allow either of them on my lap.  Well this is just NOT an acceptable option to either of them.  Never-mind the toy box full of interesting things less than 3 feet away.  No that holds nothing of interest when there is mommy's almighty lap!

They are both rolling around on the floor kicking and screaming at the top of their lungs.  Not too interested in maintaining the quiet atmosphere with soft classical music I have so diligently provided for the older two to do their school work in.  Noooo, that's not what will win the war!

Instead they think they will get their way based on who screams the loudest, kicks the hardest and has turned their face the reddest!  Yep, common sense will tell you that WILL work.  So, I get up and magically make the lap dissapear.  They don't know what to do with themselves.  They do the only logical thing, cry harder and louder.

Well, I pick on up and put her in the recliner on the right side of the room.  I pick up the boy and put him in the recliner on the left side of the room.  They are still going at it.  no longer paying attention to me or my lap.  Instead their attention is focused on each other.  making sure the other gives up first.

I sit back down.  Oh no!  Little did I know that the one year old had been secretly observing her big brother and by watching him now knows how to get off stuff without falling.  So, she slid down the side of the recliner and headed toward my lap.  The two year old had his eye on her the whole time!  He wasn't going to let that happen!  He jumped off his chair and ran full speed for the same destination.

The both arrived about the same time.  One attacking from over my left arm trying to go head first into my lap.  The other trying to sneak a leg in-between my left arm and knee and slide into "home plate".

I decided to try and let them both have a leg.  Oh no, that was the wrong decision.  They are not happy with compromise.  No, one leg just won't do!  The boy starts pushing the girl, the girl starts stepping on the boy.  I swear I am in the middle of WWIII!

This went on ALL day!  Luckily there is now a little time of peace for this war torn piece of property.  Yes, the two babies are asleep and will leave the lap alone until they wake up again.  Hopefully soon we will figure out some way to make a truce.....

steph...

That is all too funny. Just imaging the whole seen. I do hope that they come to a comprise but probably not. I still have this issue in a sense with my two. When one is giving me a hug then the other comes and trys to push the other or squeeze in to get their hug as well. Well, now rest for the next War of the Lap. Talk to you soon.

love,

stephanie
