Here is dh's second email on the validity of the Trinity

There are also Matthew 3:16-17, note the presence of Father, Son and Holy Spirit at the baptism of Jesus.  See Luke's parallel account 3:21-22.  The OT prepares us for God the Son coming in the flesh.  Consider the Daniel passage again.  The whole imagery of God in the clouds and the one like a son of man coming on the clouds as well.  The scene reminds us of Mt. Sinai, where smoke (or cloud) covered the top of the mountain while God was there meeting with Moses.  God is often depicted as riding on, or otherwise in the clouds, so the one to come (whom Jews recognize as Messiah) comes on the clouds like God.  Consider Genesis chapter one:  God created, by speaking (the Word, as in John chapter one purposefully starting out like Genesis chapter one and saying the Word created all things, and the Word was God) and the Spirit of God hovered over the face of the deep.  All three present again.  Don't you remember the series on Malachi, when I preached Malachi chapter three...oh you're the pastor's wife, you all never listen anyway...( ha, ha) the whole image of God speaking about a messenger to prepare the way (John the Baptist) but another messenger would also come, the messenger of the covenent, the Lord whom you seek...Isreal only sought God, but clearly there is a messenger whom God speaks of that isn't the Father but who Israel is seeking or should be.  God told David in II Samuel 7:16-17 that David's house would last forever.  How could David's house last forever unless God would become a man and fulfill what was promised.  Isaiah 53, just about describes Jesus' entire life...a sacrifice for His people.  Now, if every year God required the sacrifice of goats and bulls but it was never enough, more had to be sacrificed and then God promises that one day a suffering servant would make it all right (but not just any servant because God has already expressly forbid Israel from ever sacrificing humans) and that servant is clearly human...just makes you think.  It all about the accumulation of texts.    We have to read it through their culture not ours.  Psalm 110, The Lord says to my Lord, sit at my right hand...the whole thing is about someone not human, not David, he didn't do any of that stuff mentioned.  Perhaps David, thinking about the whole house lasting forever thing, is actually getting it.  Just a thought.
