It all started with a sneeze and then a cough and then a wheeze! Yesterday mason recieved a tracheotomy due to respiratory failure from a cold, also known as the rino virus. He is doing fabulous. It was really scary to hear the doctor say it could go really good or really bad. I thought oh goodness, here we go again. I never thought I would be back in this hospital to stay. Our ENT said that we could bank on being here for about a month or two. woohoo! I'm trying to stay positive. It's not as bad as i thought it was going to be or going to look or how hard it would be. Mason is breathing one hundred times better and this will give his airway a chance to really grow!!! GO AIRWAY, GROW! I will keep updates, I might just close my eyes in this horrible, i mean comfortable chair in his room and take a nap!!

Hi there:  My daughter was trached at 4 years old; she is now 7 and living life (going to school, etc.) with the trach.  Our goal is to have it removed next  year, since we have back problems to deal with first.

But I digress, it is amazing how one hears tracheotomy and freaks out; and then when one sees their child with the pink cheeks and smiles, one wonders what was the big deal?  Hey, surgery is surgery and I get it.

In a million years I never thought I would say that the trach was a good thing; but it is!  It changed our lives forever.  I am sure that Mason will grow grow grow and become a strong little man.

Take care,

Vicky
