I had my second daughter 5 months ago and me and my hubby decided that we were done having kids. So at the end of May I had the Essure procedure done (new, easier way or getting your tubes tied). Its easier because there are no incisions and recovery time is limited to one day of taking it easy. What they do is insert a metal spring in each side of your fallopian tubes and by 3 months the tissue grows around it blocking the tubes permanently so you can have no more babies. Well after the 3 months they have you go to radiology and insert a dye in your uterus while taking x rays to see if they are truly blocked. If they are blocked you will see no dye get through.
So yesterday I go and do the test. Come to find out only one of the springs took (my right tube). The other one is now embedded in my uterus wall! I was shocked when the doctor told me this and so was he for that matter. He says he has done hundreds of these procedures so far and has never seen this happen until now. So now I have 3 options.
Option #1- Leave the spring embedded in my uterus and take the chance that we get pregnant again. (which in mine and my husband book isn't an option). We know that 2 is the right number for us.
Option#2- Have the Essure procedure done again on the left tube and remove the old spring while at it. But I take the chance of my left tube rejecting it again and I'll be in the same situation I am now again.
Option #3- Have the laparoscopy Tubal Ligation where they put me under the knife and just tye my tube and be done with it. There is no waiting 3 months to see if it worked, it just does work. Now they will take out the old spring while they do this. I will have a longer recovery and require help with the house and girls for a few days but I have a wonderful support system. A loving husband and a wonderful Mom and MIL who don't mind driving the 4 hours to come help. (We are leaning towards this option)
I am just all around frustrated because I thought I was done with all this. And that I was the 1% where the procedure didn't work and the spring didn't take. I know that the Essure procedure is a lot safer, easier, convenient, faster, etc. I would recommend any woman who is thinking about getting their tubes tied to try it that way first. It just didn't turn out that way for me. I tried it the easier way and it didn't work so I am probably going ahead with the way that I know will work.
Thanks for letting me vent!
