Here is HER story about Lily Rain (COMING STRAIGHT FROM SAR'S MYSPACE BLOG)
My name is Sara, I live in Chicago. My daughter's name is Lily Rain Ilona. She was born September 11, 2006 with the defect gastroschisis. She had a hole in her belly beside her cord and her bowel was hanging out. Babies with this defect usually survive and are only in the nicu for a short time. The hospital we were referred to did not know what they were doing though they told us otherwise. We found out at about 22 weeks gestation that she had gastroschisis and in the time before she was born i studied and studied as much as i could on the topic so i would know exactly what to expect. At the time of her birth it became clear to us that this hospital was basically using my baby as an experiment. They were rude to us telling us not to touch our baby because we would hurt and bother her. My baby was born weighing only 4lbs and after the surgeries the surgeon performed she was so swollen she was weighing in at about 2o lbs. we knew something had gone terribly wrong and when they finally showed us the "closure" of the hole we knew we had to get her out of that hospital. She was left with a gaping hole obviously horribly infected and stitches tearing her skin apart. We had her transferred to Childrens Memorial hospital where after 6 weeks i was finally allowed to hold my baby. They seemed to be miracle workers because after only a short time things were looking up so much. Lily was coming off the vent and we were making plans to take her home. Suddenly our worlds were turned upside down. We started realizing that our baby wasnt as well as we thought she was. You could see in her eyes that she was confused and obviously brain damaged. We stated our concern to as many people, dr.s, nicu nurses as we could telling them something was very wrong. They would roll thier eyes and say ur just being mom and dad, calm down. Every last one of them told us that on Thanksgiving night of last year. They moved my 11 week old baby to a floor with children ranging from ages 2 to teen who were recovering from surgeries. On this floor she would only be supervised one time every 4 hours and the rest of the time she was left completely alone. They moved her there the day before Thanksgiving and I spent the entire day Thanksgiving with her and i realized that no one was paying any kind of attention to my baby. Her alarms would sound and no one would bother to come in. I knew something was wrong so we tried and tried to get them anyone to listen to us, but no one would. we went home to try and get help from our family and we planned to go in early the next morning November 24, 2006 and tell the hospital that what they are doing isnt right. We went in and some woman was holding my baby who was crying as hard as she possibly could, i took my baby from her and she immediately calmed down. my husband and my father went to speak with someone about the problems we were having. I was left in the room with my mom, my almost 3 year old daughter and my Lily. A nurse eventually came in to check her stats and i was telling her something is wrong, Lily doesnt normally act the way she was acting. The nurse rolled her eyes and took Lily from me. She put her down on the bed and realized that something was wrong. All of a sudden her heart rate dropped from 190 down to 70 and it just kept going down. I ran to the hall screaming for my husband. suddenly the entire hospital seemed to be in our little room. all of the dr.s and nurses that had told us to calm down, all the people who had rolled thier eyes at us. We all watched this horrible scene, my baby dying right in front of us. my daughter aiyana told me "sit down mama, Lily is gone now" and i knew she was right. i saw the life leave her eyes before i had even put her down. i knew she wasnt coming back. they tried for 45 mins to bring her back probably mostly to save themselves because they knew they screwed up. if they had only listened to us this could have been prevented and my baby would still be alive. when they finally told us thats all we can do i picked up my baby and i wrapped her in her blanket and i held her for hours. aiyana held her sister for the first and last time that day. it was the most horrible thing i have and will ever go through. i miss my baby so much and i am so angry that they basically just left my baby to die. The hospital we thought was saving her life ended up taking it from her and taking her from us. I will never find solace and i will never be satisfied. i am so sorry to every one of you who have had to lose your baby, whether your baby was born alive or not. There is nothing worse than losing your child no matter how it happens. we will always feel that ache, but somehow we will make it.
