Republicans are against Sex Ed/birth control, women's rights and they don't believe in Global Warming either.....
This is a quote from another post and I am sick of closed minded liberal dems saying this bologna. It's like me saying that Dems love abortion, want to make sure all teens are having sex, and think that in order to be a real women you have to be a femi-nazi.
Lately, I think that statement may be true of a lot of very liberal women but I know that most of us want the same things, we believe in the same things, we just see different ways of accomplishing the goal.
Here's some examples:
1. Republicans are against Sex Ed/birth control.
On this everyone's different even the most liberal democrat. I think we all agree that we have a problem in our society with teen pregnancy, unwanted pregnancies-- in women young & old, and that we have to inform our children about the consequences of having sex. Problem is we don't live what we are preaching to our children.
Many conservatives believe that allowing the parents to be the parent and teach their child about sex is better than mandating a government program. It doesn't mean we don't believe that basic sexual education shouldn't be taught. What most want is the ability to decide what is taught and at what ages. The program should teach all aspects from bodily changes, birth control options, abstince, STDS, and the emotional consequences from casual sex.
What we have now is a puberty based education in elementary schools, then in 9-12th grade we offer preventive measures for pregnancy. We aren't teaching the pros and cons, we are writing prescriptions for BC and teaching the symptoms for STD"s then leaving the rest up to the teens.
2. Republicans don't believe in womens rights:
This one is too funny. The majority of the party is made up of women!. I don't know which rights we are trying to ban exactly. Having a difference in opinion on Abortion is not being against women's rights, it is being against a barbaric procedure that we shouldn't need if sex ed works so well. (we have been teaching sex ed in High school for over 25 years now with no decline in abortions or teen pregnancy)
Last time I checked we want equal pay, we still get to vote, and supposedly we can't discriminate against women, unless it's Sarah Palin. Funny thing is the liberal feminists aren't coming to her defense, conservative women are!
3. Global warming:
The reason people don't buy into this is because they lived through the 70's when we believed in Global cooling. Then we have Al Gore, and a handful of celebs preaching at us to change our ways, take five minute showers, use four squares of toilet paper, ect. All the while the same people own dozens of homes, use more electricity in a month then I will in a year, fly on private planes, and then they tell me to change-- that we are the problem?
Conservatives have a platform addressing being good stewards of our planet and our nominee for President is pushing the agenda. Just because we aren't all freaking out when we see Al Gore talk about his versionof Global warming doesn't mean we don't understand that we have to be good stewards of this planet. But unlike him we listen to the scientist on the other side as well!
I am addressing all this because I'm so sick of being told what my party thinks and what we believe in. The truth is the base of the democratic party is uneducated to what either party stands for. Most have just bought into what they are being sold and statements like this just prove it.

Oh, and I used to consider myself a moderate, and I am sinking further and further into conservatism.. The wacko libs are just too much for me....
I understand your frustrations. I am a dependent. For the exact reason that there are too many single serious issues to be addressed, that are lump summed into a bill, and so we have to take the good with the bad when they are passed or not passed. I think it is unfortunate that any of us have to categorize ourselves. If we could vote on the issues, and then on candidates, I think things would work a lot better.
It's true that people are too quick to judge a democrat or republican due to its overall known beliefs in the heirarchy of the systems.
Global warming can neither be proved or disproved at this time. Science is currently speculating against it, and for it.
As for abortion and sex education. The problem is that although our system is trying, it isnt enough. And, parents are not holding their children accountable enough to respect themselves. Often I think parents are not respecting their own selves these days, which becomes an issue since children and teens will usually model their own parents behavior.
In my own opinnion, the entire governement system needs to be revamped.

Well said! I believe that is the basis on which our founding fathers agreed when they shaped our country. It is about individuals rights to think and decide for themselves, it is not suppose to be an us vs. them, which we have now! One America, offering the same basic desired freedoms for all--not entitlements for all! That is where we the people come in--if we want it then we are free to do it ourselves!
As a Libertarian who believes Global Warming is a scam and doesn't agree with abortion under most circumstances...
Thank you.
