Watching Oprah one day, Dr. Oz named Agave as the best sugar substitute and as a Young Living Distributor, I am happy to have access to Agave Nectar shipped right to my front door. Agave nectar is extracted from a cactus-like plant and is favored amongst most health conscious families for it’s low glycemic index rating. This means there isn’t the same highs and lows that you’d experience with sugar.

The GI index rating is scored from 1-100 based on how fast the carbs break down into sugar in the blood. If the score is high, then you will get a greater sugar rush as opposed to lower scores which breaks down at a slower rate, balancing the blood sugar levels. Yippee!!

GI index rating for: Sugar~68, Honey~55, Agave~11-19. WOW!!

Agave about 1/3 sweeter than sugar and honey so when using it as a sugar/sweetener substitute for cooking or baking, just add 1/3 less Agave than what the recipe calls for.

(i.e., 1 cup of sugar = 3/4 cup of Agave)

So when you’re getting ready to hand your kiddies a cold glass of sugary sweet juice-drink, prepare them a yummy glass of orangeade!
