I just wanted to share a cool way to find out your genetic background (in case you may be wondering).  I was adopted when I was a baby from the Children's Home Society.  I have always known I was adopted but had no information on my biological parents.  Needless to say I have no idea about my medical background.  This has never bothered me until I had children.  I just felt that it was important to know what if any conditions that may be hereditary on my side of the family for my children's benefit.  I have been unable to find out anything regarding my biological parents.

Recently, my neigbor introduced me to this 14 yr old bio tech company that does DNA assessments by swabing the inside of your mouth.  The reason this company does this is because they offer customized vitamins based on your DNA assessment.  I have always taken vitamins so I thought why not.

All I can say is I am super glad I did. The DNA assessment looks for variations (SNPs) in 12 key genes that are very important in your body's overall health, specifically your genetic propensity for: Oxidative stress, Environmental challenges, Cardiovascular health, Detoxification, Immune health, Neurological health, Pulmonary health, Eye/Vision health and Bone health.   These 12 variations are known to have an impact on the functioning of the body and and that may lead to diminished health and wellness.

I consider my self  healthy.  I eat right (most of the time) and I exercise three to four times a week.  The assessment utilizes a simple color coded system that is very easy to follow. Green simply means you have no disadvantaged Gene-SNP in this nutritional health area. Yellow means you have one disadvantaged Gene-SNP from one of your parents, in this nutritional health area. Red simply means you have two disadvantaged SNPs in this nutritional health area.  When you have yellow you need a little added support to keep the body functioning optimally and if you have red you need maximum support. Green is good.

Out of the 12 areas measured I only had two greens, 6 yellow and 4 red.  My neighbor fortunately for her, had no red and only two yellows. Lucky!  I found out from my assessment  that I have a high difficulty detoxifying harmful substances which means I am particularly vulnerable to their effects. I also found out that the MTRR enzyme which is responsible for reducing blood levels of homocysteine is an area that I need extra nutritional support.  Homocysteine is associated with heart attacks, strokes, peripheral vascular diseases.  It also can disrupt normal blood clotting mechanisms. I also learned that one of my specific enzymes that deals with cholesterol and blood lipid response is an area that is not functioning optimally. In summary, I need extra support in all areas dealing with cardiovascular health.  Without this assessment I would have never known.

By analyzing and understanding my genetic strengths and weaknesses, I can eliminate the guesswork and "genetically guide" the optimal nutritional supplement formulation to match my assessment.  I can rest easy knowing that I am feeding my body the right personalized formula to help me achieve and maintain optimal health, longevity and well being.  I am not hear to sell anything.  I feel very blessed that I know this information and I can now take the right steps to keep myself as healthy as possible as well as my children.  If anyone is interested in learning more feel free to email me and I can direct you on where to go to learn more about this assessment.  You can have an assessment done (totally confidential) without having to purchase the supplements. It is awesome to finally know more about my genetic makeup. I hope this information can help someone else. Again, if you would like to know how to find out how this all works feel free to give me a call at
