I love planning parties. I try to make them all memorable. it's so fun to plan and decorate, etc. My favorite parties are kids parties. We always throw HUGE parties for my son. Kids LOVE them and they don't have to be perfect, just fun. This year will be the most memorable so far!
This year, actually at the end of this month, my son will turn 9. Most kids go play laser tag or a swim, but my son is having an Army Recruitment Party. I've made invitations that look like small manilla folders marked as "classified! for (child's name)'s Eyes Only". My cousin is dressing up as an army "Colonel" and will go to door to door to deliver the invitations. Inside the invitation is a Notice that they've been recruited to my son's party, where to report, what time, etc.
We'll have a tent set up with an American Flag outside of it with a "Recruitment Officer" inside where they will sign their name, get their "dog tag", face paint and an army hat. Then they'll get their picture taken in front of the flag and we'll say the Pledge of Allegience. My husband and cousin who are former military will put them through some drills, push ups, and obstacle course, marching, and nerf gun target practice. Then we're going to play injured man, where they split up into two teams and the smallest child will be the injured man. Each team has to wrap the injured man in toilet paper (bandages) and bring them to the infirmary. Then they will walk a mine field blindfolded. In the field will be water balloons and when they step on they will get wet.
Then we'll head to the "mess hall" for some refreshments and "Party". The kids love to dance, so we're setting up our garage with streamers and balloons and piping music in there so that they can dance and get crazy. At the end, I've got two National Guardsman, both who just returned from Iraq, who will be handing out certificates and "medals".
As you can imagine, the kids are going to love it and have so much fun. I can't wait!
