Pit Bull or Prairie Dog

By Bernadette T. Vadurro

Sarah Palin the virtually unknown Vice Presidential Nominee was introduced to the world through her acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. I was particularly struck by the tone and ferocity of her acceptance speech. Sarah Palin relished in the role of attack dog unmercifully trashing Barack Obama, the Democratic Presidential Nominee.  She mocked and assailed Obama with the zeal of a pit bull to which she compared herself as she proudly proclaimed herself a hockey mom. And in a follow-up rhetorical question, she jokingly asked, "What's the difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom-Lipstick" answered Palin to a roaring crowd of fans.

Since Palin's debut at the Republican National Convention, her public appearances have been limited to stump speeches before adoring crowds of Republican enthusiasts.  The McCain Campaign, using a Bush offensive tactic against curious Americans, is denying the public the scrutiny to which all national politicians have been subjected.

The Republicans have informed the American public that Sarah Palin will not be available for media interviews until the media shows deference and respect for their candidate.  The Republicans demand deference and respect as if they were representing royalty.  It certainly didn't seem as if Palin cared to offer any deference or respect in her scathing attacks against Senator Obama.

Imagine Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama making such an assertion during their campaigns.  Obama has endured ruthless, hateful rumors, gossip, and malicious lies that have been spread about him over the internet and in the mainstream media for more than a year.

McCain and Palin say they stand for change but instead they offer the same old manipulative Bush-Rove tactics by limiting direct media access to their campaign. How is this different from the Republican controlled and scripted misinformation, half-truths and lies that have been shoved down American throats for the last eight years?

Scott McClellan, who once served as the Bush Whitehouse Press Secretary, recently reminded Americans of the deceitful and scheming strategies used by the Republicans in his book "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception."

With less than sixty days before the election, American voters have every right to fully get to know Palin.  Sarah Palin will have to face greater threats than the American Media if she is to assume the position as Vice President.  There is no dress rehearsal for the position.

Palin was quick to point out in her acceptance speech that she said "No Thanks to Congress" for the millions of dollars for "that bridge to nowhere," but it turns out that Ms. Palin actually kept the millions of dollars offered to Alaska and instead spent the money on a road to nowhere.  Did she really believe that in doing so she was acting as a fiscal conservative?

As for the plane that Mrs. Palin alluded to selling on Ebay; it never sold on Ebay. It was instead sold at a loss to the state by a private party.  I understand that this plane was used to transport prisoners and was an important transportation asset. How much does it now cost to transport prisoners and was it really a cost savings to sell the plane at a loss?

In another matter, Sarah Palin who flaunts herself as a thrifty tax conscious politician billed the Alaskan tax payers for travel per diem for more than 300 nights that she spent at home.  Let's remember that Governor Palin has been Alaska's governor for 18 months.  This means Palin collected government funds intended to compensate her for travel while she stayed at home for almost a year.

From the little we know Palin is intriguing Americans.  Her conservative platform has galvanized the right.  However, Palin appears to be an even more radicalized version of George W. Bush.  As new information is exposed about Sarah Palin the left is becoming quickly repulsed by the thought of a McCain-Palin win.

For example Governor Palin is witnessed on YouTube asking members of her church congregation to pray for the Alaskan Pipeline.  It appears that Palin's idea of God is like a Santa Claus who delivers goodies to faithful parishioners who pray for such worldly possessions. In another documented report Palin has written gratitude letters for her youngest son and signed them as Jesus Christ.  George W. Bush led us down a path of Christian conservatism that has blurred the lines between the separation of church and state.  His policies have greatly polarized and divided our nation.  We must ask Palin if she plans to continue this fundamental division and if so I wonder how much more our nation can withstand.

Republican propaganda is being doled out with little or no chance for fact checking or repudiation. The staged interview with Charles Gibson of ABC is another example of faux journalism as Gibson failed to challenge Palin on a number of comments. After the interview a series of commentators said how well Palin did because after all she at least knew who Putin is and where Georgia is located.

As more information is gathered, Sarah Palin needs to start answering questions.  Is she hiding behind the gender card to avoid the tough questions?  Are Republicans using delay tactics so that the American public doesn't really get to know Sarah Palin?  Perhaps Palin isn't a pit bull, she's looking more like a prairie dog, hiding for cover in a hole and only coming out when it looks safe. We will never know for sure where Palin stands on important issues, if the McCain Campaign keeps her hidden and only let's her play softball with the media.

I have seen snippets of the Gibson interview and what little I saw was frightening as to her obvious struggling to come up with answers. This woman appalls me on many levels. I think it's insulting in the extreme to think that  a female voter would cast a vote their way soley because she's a woman. All I have seen of her campaign appearances are rehashes of her speech at the convention, which were full of out and out lies at worst, and significant bendings of the truth at best. This election is far too critical to be voted on based on slanderous ads and personality. I am trusting that Americans will vote based strictly on the issues.

You'd think Sarah Palin was on the show Are You Smarter than a Third Grader.  She's NOT!

This is an impressive observation. I am certainly not going to be pulled in the bs...I have a brain, I dont care what the gender is, I care about who can fix this nation. The world is certainly laughing at us, as usual.
