Being 8 weeks pregnant (No picnic!)

Oh, the joys!  I haven't yet gotten as sick as I was with my first child.  No, that was a memorable experience that involved at least daily puking, severe constipation, gagging with every tooth brushing, and cancelling my Dentist appointment because it would have been impossible.  (and this lasted until just prior to the start of my 7th month!)

This time around, with baby number three, I have just begun to get "the sickness."  No, I can't call it morning sickness.  There is no specific time of day for this.  In fact, I'd say there's definitely much more of an all day experience here than anything else.  For instance, I was eating triscuits in bed at 2:00 this morning because I woke with a huge wave of nausea covering me.

I am never hungry, yet I feel like I must eat or I might just die.  So, then it becomes: what on earth do I eat?  NOTHING in my house sounds good, and if I'm around town, nothing there sounds good either.  Finally, I just decide on something because I know that if I don't eat I will vomit at any second.  Today, I was in the drive-through of Amigos ordering some nachos (non-spicy) as as I ordered it, as the words came out of my mouth, "small nachos," I felt the saliva gathering in my mouth.  I was truly sick at the thought of eating the nachos.  But, I ordered it and a glass of ice water.  After a couple long swallows of the cold water, I was able to convince myself to eat a chip, and another, and another until I finished almost the whole thing.  I did feel better (but then I had heartburn).

It's this vicious cycle, roller-coaster really, of trying to stay ahead of the nausea.  IF I can convince myself to eat a whole, healthy meal, I feel much better about a half hour after.  For supper tonight, we had omelets, pancakes, and potatoes.  There were tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, and spinach in my omelet.  The tomatoes were an absolute "NO," but I managed the rest of the veggies-somehow.  Vegetables, lately...not going so well.  Fruit goes down ok, but I start to eat  my usually-beloved favorite veggies and I literally begin to gag.  Prenatal vitamins?  Yeah, not happening here.

I hope it ends soon...I'm miserable, my house is a mess, I'm crabby with the kids...I could go on and on...

Hard candy helps some, and I keep intending to get to the health food store for some ginger chews.  In the meantime, I'm managing as best I can.

Congrats on your pregnancy!  The sickness will pass.  Just hang in there & eat fruit until you can handle more.  Hugs!
