I certainly feel my age today! Yesterday I played in a 7 hour softball tournament with my hubby's company team. Good news=We took second place. Bad News=We played all day and took second place! lol

It's been at least 10 years since I played an organized game of softball. My kids have all been involved in a league for several years and I've even helped coach from time to time. There's a big difference in playing a little game of catch with a 6 year old and playing an all day tournament with adults who play regularly! I don't think any of us on the team thought we'd go all the way to championship game. Most of our team was made up of high school kids, a few adult softball enthusiast, and a couple of the "old farts" (dh & me-lol). The last time I played ball regularly was in high school. Mind you, I was never a "star" athlete but it gave me something to do after school as well as something besides academics to put on my college applications (not that going to college worked out either)! Anyway, dh's team needed enough girls to play in order to participate in the tournament. I told him if he could line up people to watch the littlest one, I'd play. I NEVER dreamed he'd actually come through. He got different folks lined up to watch Daniel all day long at the tournament! I only sat out one game-mainly because I was worn out since we'd been playing back to back games for 3 hours! I did make a couple good plays and impressed myself as well as the neighbors! I suppose I simply forgot how much personal satisfaction you get from playing a team sport! It's an great ego boost, gives you personal satisfaction, and does wonders for self esteem! It's well worth the aches and pains I'm feeling today for the jolt to my self esteem that will last much longer!

The other lesson I learned=next year will be a year spent at the gym so I won't feel so achy the day after a tournament!

These are lessons I'll hopefully remember long from now and continue to reinforce to my kids!
