here are a few ideas of how we kept it simple: we only spent about $1500 on our wedding....

-wedding dress: I went to davids bridal and got mine for $300 (Clearance section is wonderful), and my wedding veil was $200.

-place: We went to our pastor and asked him to wed us. p.s. if you have a wedding at 1pm, you don't have to do a big dinner..... just little finger food, and the cake- save a Bunch that way:)

-food:  We didn't do booz! Since it was at our Baptist Church, that wasn't going to happen:) Fine with us!   my mom did pay for the cake- and we paid for the finger food..... we got some good lunch meat, cubed cheese,(don't forget the toothpicks)  Grapes, peanuts, and party mints..... we had a family friend make a really good punch to go with it.  LUNDS makes a really good wedding cake, and they are not so bad price wise either....

-guests: we mainly invited family members and some close family friends..... we had about 100 people  there total beside the wedding party- it was great! After the wedding we were able to mingle and talk with everyone! Lots of people said it was a wonderful wedding, and one of the best one's for that year that they had been too!

-wedding party: we had a small wedding party and attendance.   I had total of three brides maids/maid of honor and one flower girl/ring bearer, two ushers. They all paid for their own dresses... also, if you know that you will need suits for the guys, sometimes renting the suits is cheaper than getting new ones.... we did that, and paul got his for free, and we also got 100 free invites!  Call around! THe dresses where out of a Chadwick's magazine.... then they could wear them for different things too!

-Wedding singers/music players: I asked people from our church that could sing good to do the music-I think I might have given them a little bit of money, I don't remember..... Once again, we kept it simple. I picked out two songs: the wedding song, and I will be here by Steven Curtis Chapmen.... (both are on my playlist on cafemom).... I asked the pastor's wife to do the piano playing and the church organist to do the organ.   Very traditional with no extra musical instruments..... I liked it, and so did our guests!

-wedding decorations: we didn't have too much on that line..... My bridesmaids did the decorating the day before the wedding! I think they wanted to kill me, but they did it!  we bought some tull Sp? and some simple pretty silk ribbon and tied pretty bows on a few of the first rows at church..... If you get married in a chruch, take advantage of the church decorations..... If they have silk plants on the podium, use them..... Usually they will have things there that they use for weddings.... or at least ours did:) for a white runner that I walked down on, we got a paper one from the party supply store!

-Reception decorations: I made them.... we did simple violet pots, that I decorated with sponge paint in our wedding colors, and then had put in a kelm, we have a little mama/papa shop that does that type of stuff, so I went there and did them in our colors...... I put them around the cake, and used them afterward as thank you gifts to those who helped in the wedding.... piano, organ players ect..... I only had six of them. The violets only cost a little bit too:) not too bad price:)

-Wedding flowers: look around!!!! Don't get them from the first place you go too! I went to I think three places before I chose the ones I wanted! I ended up at a local mama/papa shope that had been there for fifty years! They had wedding books from the 80's,90's and early 2000's:) So My flowers were Not what was in style, but what I liked:) Also, go with what is readily avilable:) like don't go with tulips, in December if they won't grow naturally that time of year:) also if you go with roses, there are some that are just as pretty but cheaper lots of times.... some white roses are cheaper than other white roses.... Confusing, but true:)  just ask your flourist:)   he/she will help you out! Make an appointment to meet with them, so they have a time slot just for you.....other than the dress/veil I think I spent the most on flowers.... I paid for the whole wedding party's flowers.... Mine cost the most and was $89.00..... the other boquess were smaller than mine and cost something like $35? a piece  I don't remember..... With your wedding in winter you could go with a very pretty winter wonderland theme:)  depends on what you like:)

-wedding photo's: Look around! Ask a photographer friend if you have one that is pretty good, that would be the cheapest way, or a very good family member with a really good digital camera..... we went with a local photographer, and didn't like it:( the one thing I wish we spent more money on..... ask around....

Well I didn't spend a dime personally but let me break it down and see lol

roughly $300 for the materials to make my dress and veil (thanks mom)

50ish bucks for my hair do

$600 for the wedding site

$250 for the priest

$300 for the most gawd awful cake ever (Bleh)

$500 for the photographer (also terrible)

$250 for the flowers (not the right ones lol)

$350 for the reception hall

My inlaws paid for all the food and beer and champagne for the reception so I have NO idea how much that cost

And then my parents paid for our "honeymoon" Halloween horror nights in Universal Studios :) The best part for sure :) And I think that was about $400

so grand total (not counting the food and stuff for the reception) roughly $3,000

All that but you know what we really wanted? To go camping in the woods, invite some people out, have a priest and a cake and be done with it. LOL, so much for simple :)

Good tips you have there too :)

Sounds exactly like my wedding! My dress was $500, my Great Aunt made the cake and we had the reception in the church's hall- so no alcohol bill. My mother made beautiful flower arrangements from silk flowers and she also made the flower girl basket, the bouquets and the decorations (everything was bought very inexpensively from a craft store).  My husband's cousin is a photographer and she took the pictures for free. My family all chipped in and made the food and we a buffet style reception. There was no music, so we didn't have to pay a DJ.
