My play mom sent me this...

[The] Alaska Women Reject Palin rally... was organized by a small group of women, talking over coffee. These women hatched the plan, printed up flyers, posted them around town, and sent notices to local media outlets.  One of those media outlets was KBYR radio, home of Eddie Burke, a long-time uber-conservative Anchorage talk show host.  Turns out that Eddie Burke not only announced the rally, but called the people who planned to attend the rally “a bunch of socialist baby-killing maggots”, and read the home phone numbers of the organizers aloud over the air, urging listeners to call and tell them what they thought.  The women, of course, received some nasty,  harassing and threatening messages.

Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage.  The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators).  This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state.  I was absolutely stunned.  The second most amazing thing is how many people honked and gave the thumbs up as they drove by.  And even those that didn’t honk looked wide-eyed and awe-struck at the huge crowd that was growing by the minute.  This just doesn’t happen here.

Then, the infamous Eddie Burke showed up.  He tried to talk to the media, and was instantly surrounded by a group of 20 people who started shouting O-BA-MA so loud he couldn’t be heard.  Then passing cars started honking in a rhythmic pattern of 3, like the Obama chant, while the crowd cheered, hooted and waved their signs high.

So, if you’ve been doing the math…  Yes.  The Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was significantly bigger than Palin’s rally that got all the national media coverage!  So take heart, sit back, and enjoy the photo gallery.  Feel free to spread the pictures around to anyone who needs to know that Sarah Palin most definitely does not speak for all Alaskans.  The citizens of Alaska, who know her best, have things to say.

Palin is a divider.

Her energy sucks.

And yet she has an astounding 85% approval rate.  Unlike our dem-controlled congress right now that has a 9% approval rate.  Everyone has the right to peacefully assemble and protest, and not everyone is going to like a politician.  But that group is hardly representative of the voters in Alaska.

Hey shellynn, a smear campaign and posting facts are two different things.

You need to remember that as Americans we are entitled to the presentation of FACTS devoid of bias. There is nothing biased about this post. This is a FACTUAL event that for whatever reason has not been covered by the mainstream media. If you read something that extolls only the finer points of a particular candidate without giving all the FACTS, you as an American have to remember that is actually bias.

If the media gives us nothing but bias for ANY candidate and labels it facts, it's up to us the AMERICAN PEOPLE to do our own research and share facts where we find them. God bless the Internet and God bless America.

You are 100% right, there is nothing biased about this post.  My comments were directed toward the poster, that commented that "most alaskans dont support her"  As an Alaskan, I was correcting her misconceptions

FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin arrived home to a chanting, cheering crowd, a blur of smiling supporters eager to embrace her after a whirlwind of national scrutiny since she was named Republican presidential nominee John McCain's running mate.

"It's been an amazing couple of weeks," Palin told the crowd of more than 2,000 gathered inside an airport hanger. They chanted, "Sarah, Sarah," waved signs that said, "Palin Is great."

2,000 people, not bad since there are only 34,540 in Fairbanks and only 82,840 in the entire Fairbanks North Star Borough.  Anchorage does not speak for all of Alaska.

Like most protesters standing around holding signs - they look like hippies.

They don't look like hippies. They look like hockey (soccer) moms.

I wish the main stream media would have covered this. They act like the world loves her. I don't know anyone who does.

I read on a very conservative site a very long article on the Bible's view on women. They had to "upgrade" the opinion once HRC was not the nominee for the Dems and Palin is the nominee for the Republicans. It is hysterical to see conservatives back pedal so quickly.

What's your point?  What does it matter what they look like and who cares if they look like hippies?  I don't get it.  Is there something that you would rather they look like while protesting?

How about if they looked like the colonists who were the first "protesters." ?  How about if they looked like the women from the suffrage movement whose "protests" won us all the right to vote in the first place?   People need to realize that it's protests much like this that have brought about some very important changes in this country.

My comment was based on this:

He tried to talk to the media, and was instantly surrounded by a group of 20 people who started shouting O-BA-MA so loud he couldn’t be heard.  Then passing cars started honking in a rhythmic pattern of 3, like the Obama chant, while the crowd cheered, hooted and waved their signs high.

And the fact that they are holding up signs that are for Obama, and signs that said "MCSAME."  And other signs that are against Bush. So therefore I do not believe that I am assuming anything.

I myself am neither democrat or republican, but this event is not surprising or a dramatic event, these situations happen all the time in all parts of our great country. I personally am not persuaded by a group of people chanting on the side of the rode stating who they support or do not support, I choose to make my own decision based upon each candidate and who will be the best for our country. Is it Obama, I do not know. Is it McCain, I do not know. Would I like there to be a third party in this race? Yes, I would.
