I don't know why this came to mind. Perhaps I have just seen it one too many times. I cannot STAND to see little kids with designer clothes, a fresh pair of J's, gold around thier necks-AND ROTTEN ASS TEETH! I mean honestly, how trifling can you get? You keep your baby "fresh to death" but you can't keep their breath fresh? You can afford Coogi but you can't afford Colgate? Where are your priorities? What are you teaching your child? Not hygene, that's for damn sure.
How sad is it that your child is ashamed to smile? How embarassing. Think about how that affects them. I remember when I was young and there was a little boy on my block with rotten teeth. The kids picked on him so much. I felt so bad for him.
Furthermore, it makes the dentist the enemy. When you FINALLY take the kid to the dentist, the visit is frightening and traumatic. And it is YOUR FAULT. Do you want them to be afraid of the dentist, someone who is there to help? Preventive care is the key. Be proactive. Cavitie are not a given. They are not inevitable. They are preventable, if you care to prevent them.
Let's get it together, people. Take these kids to the dentist. The guidelines say by one or when the first tooth comes in, which ever is FIRST. I'll be honest. I take my kids when they turn two. But I take them, damn it. And they love their dentist. It's fun because tthey get free toothbrushes and stickers and there is no pain.
Don't do it for me. Don't do it for you. Do it for your kids. They deserve it.
This is dedicated to my mom, who took us to the dentist often. Thanks to her guidance, I went a quarter of a century cavity-free. Seriously. Love you, Mommy.

Gee Regina, tell us how you really feel! LOL!! My kids have lots of friends with horribly rotten teeth :( Sadly, I have watched their parents give them bottles (baby bottles) of soda since they were 5 or 6 months old and nothing else. I agree - it's the parents fault!! Overindulgence and BAD hygene - tsk tsk!!! Poor kids.
