To start off, for those that don't know Ian has been having major problems with constipation. He has been like this since birth. In the beginning it was normal b/c I was nursing but since I have stopped it has gotten way worse. The crazy ped. I was going to couldn't/ wouldn't help me. I would bring it up with every appointment. He will "grow out of it "was always his response. I did get him to do stimulation on him for one appointment. But that didn't work either. So I switched to just my normal family doc. and told him my concerns at Ian's one year app. So this doc. was concerned -finally- and put him on a laxative everyday. He said come back in a month and he should be all cleaned out and be better. Well it has been two weeks and he has been the same. No progress. Ian was sick with a cold so I took him in mon. and he was getting two ear infections, I then mentioned it to the doc. ( a different one, mine wasn't in that day) and he said give him apple cider. Yeah like that is the cure all I have tried everything so that wasn't going to work, he also said the meds can take awhile.
So now, the last two nights Ian has been screaming for like a good hour at a time. He doesn't want to be held nothing I could do to calm him down just let him dry himself to sleep. It has been breaking my heart. So I called the doc and got him in again today. The doc took an x-ray and he was full of it! Literally! You could see it all in the x-ray. No wonder he is in pain. The doc said his body is spasming and that is what is causing the pain. So he said to give him a suppository everyday ( which I have given many times) and then in two weeks he will x-ray him and see if it helped.
I knew something was wrong but it is hard being a mother b/c you don't want to make everything look like a big thing but when you know something is wrong it usually is. I just hope that this works and that he will feel better. This week has been horrible, poor thing has had a cold, ear infections, constipation issues and I think he is cutting his fourth molar. Kaitlyn has always been healthy so this is so difficult when you have sick child. I give credit to those with very sick children. It is very stessful and draining b/c you can't do anything to help them.
Well if you made it this far, thanks for reading. I will keep you updated on this stinky situation.:)
I know this is rough. The unconsolable screaming is what gets to me too. I hope you get better results when you get the next x-ray. Poor Ian ( and you too). I know it's exhausting.

hi, just saw this on the journals page.... we've got lots of experience w/ constipation here! i'm guessing he is at least 14 mo and eating regular foods... Try making him a cup of chamomille tea - sweeten it w/ karo syrup. About one tablespoon for the cup of tea. Let it cool and have him drink while its slightly warm. The warmth will help soothe him and the karo syrup for some reason is a natural laxative. One of my twins was born w/ problems as well, not as severe as your son's but we had to do this up til he was about a year old. He had two cups of tea a day. Also Sunsweet makes a juice called Plumsmart, my niece who has issues as well calls this Princess juice! lol... She drinks two cups of it a day. Also all fruits that start w/ a P are natually laxative qualities. We eat lots of pears, mandarin oranges, peaches, and pineapple. They each have a serving of those once a day! I hope this helps and that he gets some relief soon!
