From One Mom to Another

I am honored to have been picked by Cafemom to be a part of the Influencer Program. This month and next CafeMom is partnering with Yoplait during their annual Save Lids to Save Lives campaign. For every pink lid sent in to Yoplait, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, up to $1.5 million. And they guarantee a donation of at least $500,000. This is what the lids look like...

I have a team for collecting lids!!

Please see my home page or visit the Yoplait site! Links below!

I think it is a noble thing to be a part of breast cancer awareness.  I have done my share of walks and charity events, click for the cure, etc.  then I stumbled across a website ... www.thinkbeforeyoupink.org ... and it made me SO much more aware of how much these companies are really helping (or NOT).  take, for example, the write up on the yoplait campaign ...

Yoplait’s fall campaign, Save Lids to Save Lives, continues to urge consumers to buy pink-lidded cups of Yoplait yogurt. For each pink lid mailed back to the company by December 31, Yoplait donates ten cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, up to $1.5 million. Sadly, a woman would have to eat three containers of Yoplait every day during the four-month campaign to raise $36 for the cause–and the yogurt is made from cows treated with rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone). Recent studies show that rBGH dairy products may be linked with an increased risk of breast, colon, and prostate cancer.

I don't want to burt your bubble, but some of these companies are contributing to the problem, not the cure.

dianerenem Thank you for your comment! I think everything in life has some "down" side. The FDA seems to think rBGH is okay to use...it's been used for over 10 years. I am not saying your views aren't accurate...just that some have a different opinion. It is good for people to be aware.

Like most dietary proteins, rbGH is degraded by digestive enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract and not absorbed intact.

Unfortunately, I don't think we even get the pink lids over here. :( I have yet to see them, at any rate. If I come across any, though, I'll be sure to save them and help your team out!
