Just Sewin & Other Thoughts

thoughts, crafting, quilting, grandma

It's been soooo long since I have written in my journal!  Thought I'd post and let you all know that while I have been MIA (or it seems that way), I have been stopping in daily.  I just haven't been in the mood to make siggies or edit photos.  I've been sick for a month now and just starting to get my energy back.  It seems when my energy goes so does my creative mind.

Randy and I are gearing up to change the direction of his business from geotechnical drilling to geothermal drilling.  We head to Nashville a week from today for Randy to take classes to be come an accredited geothermal driller.  I'm just going for the heck of it.  Maybe I'll get to see some of Nashville while I am there! But, his classes and passing all the exams is the main focus of this trip.  Once that is done, we will pursue financing for a new rig and begin bidding on jobs.  We hope to have all of this in place by the beginning of 2009.  I will take a more active roll in this new venture.  I will be handling all the placement of bids and pay estimates.  These are things I am experienced in and it will be fun to have a part in the business.  It will also mean less time to "play" on the computer.  On top of that, most of the jobs for this type of work are not in our area and are for at least a month long and up to a year long.  So, this will mean living away from "home".  I just can't stand being away from Randy for more than a few days, so I will go with him.

My girls are doing well.  Lauren is still attending college full time and in search of a part-time job.  Miranda is moving to a new apartment next week.  She is looking forward to getting into a nicer area of town.  She continues to work for the Lexus Dealership.

The weather has definitely decided it is fall here in North Carolina.  We woke up to temps in the high 50's today.  Time to get my cactus in from outside, don't want them getting too cold.  I need to weed the gardens, but just haven't worked up to that level of activity yet.  I sure don't need to plunge back into being sick.

October will be here before we know it and I will turn 50.  Randy and I are planning a trip to Williamsburg for my birthday.  Why Williamsburg?  Well, we own a timeshare and the places I really wanted to go to are all booked up. So, we will head to Williamsburg and spend time with my best friend from high school and her husband.  I grew up in Hampton, VA so I've done all the "sight seeing" in Colonial Williamsburg that a person could want.  Back when I was a kid, you could tour all the little shops and stuff for free!  My mother took us there often!  I'd like to go to the Pottery Factory, acres and acres of stuff to check out there!  No telling what else we can find to do!  A trip to some of my old "stomping" grounds isn't out of the question, as long as the gas prices aren't too high!

Speaking of gas prices...I am pretty much a "home body" so the prices haven't eaten us alive yet.  What scares me the most is the pumps running dry because people panic.  We saw that happen here in NC a week ago just 2 days before Hurricane Ike made landfall.  Now, I heard that there was panic at the pump in Nashville yesterday and all the stations ran out of gas!  I believe we all need to try to conserve as much as possible.  I remember the gas rationing of the 1970's.  I would hate to see us go through that now.

I hope you all are staying safe and healthy!  Enjoy this beautiful fall weather while you can, winter will be soon upon us!

HOW I ENVY THOSE TEMPERATURES IN THE 50'S, YES WE ARE IN THE FALL SEASON BUT IN MIAMI NOT MUCH CHANGES AS FAR AS WEATHER, IF YOU WAKE UP AROUND 5:30 AM YOU MIGHT CATCH A GLIMPSE OF HIGH 60'S TEMPERATURES IF NOT, NOT A CHANCE!  ONCE OUR SUN COMES OUT THAT IS IT, 80 DEGREES OR MORE. ENJOY THAT FALL WEATHER!
