I just responded to a post in one of my groups about the high level of frustration, fear, anger and depression so many women are experiencing, trying to hold their familes together financially.  I can tell you, from 29 years of first hand job experience, that the people who are struggling to keep their heads above water are NOT the "will work for food" guys on the corner.  They are working families who ARE doing all the right things and being responsible, contributing members of society - and they are not quite making it. We're now calling them "the working poor" and their numbers are growing and growing. I know because I am paid to evaluate and track these trends and statistics in order to find ways to fill in the gaps in services to them.

Most of us are one illness, one dead car, one cut in work hours away from it all falling apart. Every single day, I hear from people who are choosing between paying for their medicatons and buying food, gas or heat. These are not choices we should have to make. It's NOT what our country is supposed to be about. Are there people out there cheating the system? Yup. But please trust me on this one, they are in the minority.  Empathy...we need more of it for each other.  You can look at a person from the outside and have NO idea what is going on in their lives. We are all good at hiding our struggles.

Which leads me to my purpose for posting this journal. I have a job that involves helping people get medications they cannot afford, whether it's that they have NO insurance or the co-pays are just too high. I try to find ways to get them their medications. If you are being treated for a specific illness, disease or condition, there are many private foundations out there to assist financially that most people don't know about. Some pharmaceutical companies have medication assistance programs. If anyone EVER needs assistance in this area, PLEASE feel free to PM me anytime.

Donna

P.S please vote popular JUST so more women may see it ok? thanks!

P.S.S For anyone who would like more information and isn't comfortable PMing me, here is a great website database that allows you to click on any medication using the name brand or generic name and it will show you any assistance being offered. Also, on the left side of the page you will see "Disease based assistance" which will allow you to look at assistance through foundations for things like cancer, MS, COPD, chronic illness,etc......

I agree with you 100% It is sad that some have to risk their health because they can't afford to maintain it.

the craziest part CCmom is that when someone stops taking insulin or Lipitor or whatever, because they cannot afford it, they end up in the ER or hospitalized and the cost for health care is driven up even more, again and again. We don't seem to be able to grasp the concept of that vicious cycle in our society....

Although the military takes care of us cause we live near base. We are walking a very fine line.  Fuel prices took away our saved money.  I am working lots of extra hours to pay for this coming winters fuel.

I think it is disgusting that our government helps everyone one all over the world. But, families in this country are ignored. God that ticks me off.

I don't have any heath insurance and can't afford heath insurance right now. I gave up all my meds 2 years ago because of no insurance. Good thing I had my gall bladder out when we did have it . I am still paying off that bill.

Sounds like a very important job.  We don't have rx ins, but we also don't have any chronic illnesses.  I've been very blessed with a very healthy family (so far).  Can you help people with quick stuff too, like antibiotics?
