I was very pleased with the conversation that I had with Dietitian Judy.  Not only was she extremely nice and easy to talk to, but she was very helpful. 

We first discussed some breakfast options besides the ones I've been trying to get Abby to eat.  Instead of the toaster strudels and just plain old waffle with butter and syrup,  I'm going to try a waffle with a bit of peanut butter and slivers of apples on top.  Those are things Abby will eat a little of by themselves so why not all together?  I'm also going to try oatmeal but let her put in additions like cinnamon, raisins, banana slices, and anything else I can find for her to put in it.  She might like it more if she has a part in it.  Also, Judy helped me realize that I don't have to battle over every bite!  I was amazed to say the least!  If she doesn't want to eat, then okay.  I've been getting so worked up about her not eating, and Abby sees that as a attention thing.  She has been through some stuff for a 5 year old.  I've remarried and now her father has just remarried.  And kindergarten on top of that...she is sort of acting out.  Anyhow...

Lunches at school, since she doesn't take her lunch, gives her some control over what she eats.  I'm going to start finding the menu from the lunchroom and question her on what she ate instead of asking her to tell me the specifics by herself.  The snack after school will be one that I choose, not Abby.  She can have the toaster strudel then, or cheese and crackers, or a cookie.  But instead of keeping a snack in her hand up until dinner, she only gets the one snack that I've given her.  Also NO drinks at all at least an hour before dinner. 

I'm going to try and involve her more in the dinner-making process (only the stuff that doesn't give me a heart attack) in the hopes that if she helps, she will eat theory.  I'm going to try my hand at some deviled eggs for the first time and maybe with Abby helping me make them, she'll eat one.  Another thing Judy and I discussed was introducing a NEW food each night.  Now I might not be able to each night, but I'll try my best for say every other night.  I'm going to break my family out of the rut of eating the same types of food.  We can experiment.  Not with brussel sprouts though.  Kidding.  I'm adding a new rule also:  Abby will take at least 2 bites of a new food.  If it's horrible to her, she may spit it in a napkin and that's that.  No more battles.  I'm ready...

Sounds like you got some good pointers.  Brenton and Jenna have been trying new stuff too and surprisingly they are eating some of it!  Yay!  The only thing I still cant get them to eat is fruits and veggies though so be glad that Abby will at least eat a little of those.  Unlike my kids...
