I've read many blogs and posts from so many different websites; trying to tell Pagans (Witches, Wiccans etc.) that you MUST have certain tools to make rituals and spell work.  Well, I'm here to tell you that your power and energy comes from within and while tools can help us focus; they are only inanimate objects. 

There is no need to go out and spend a bunch of money (especially the way our economy is leaning) to make your practices truly magical.  I have found that by making and incorporating your own tools makes your workings just as special. 

Feel like you need a wand to help you focus your energies better?  Go on a nature walk and find a fallen stick or branch that you could use to make your own beautiful wand. You can decorate it with a pretty ribbon you have or carve some simple symbols into it.  PLEASE-do not cut a limb off of a tree or bush.  The reason I say this is it is not a need to live for you to have that branch and why hurt something for gain?  After you have found a suitable branch make sure to leave something for the tree that gave it to you.  A simple drink of water is always appreciated.  I have heard from many "well, you need certain woods for certain things."  Some woods are said to aid in different areas, but a wand or athame is nothing more than an extension of your hand. 

Candles are always a hot topic; no pun intended. I have seen many sites that sell "spell charged" candles or candles that are anointed with this or that.  You don't have to have special candles.  In fact, the ones you can buy at Walmart are just fine.  There are certain colors that can be used for certain things but you don't have to follow the books.  The best spells and rituals are ones that are made up by you.  Use what calls to you and charge them yourself with your own positive energies.

Herbs and oils are another ritual and spell tool used by many.  The herbs that you have in your cooking cabinet are just as effective as the expensive little packages you can find in specialty stores.  Use what you have and improvise when needed.  Again, use what calls to you for your workings. 

*I personally don't use oils at the moment because I am pregnant and certain herbs and oils can be harmful. So if you are expecting make sure to be VERY careful.*  Oils can be very expensive for just a little dram; this is another reason I don't use oils.  Instead I find that using a drop of extra virgin olive oil is just as effective.  If you want to make it special you can mix the oil with your herbs of choice.

These are just a couple of examples of how you can make things happen without spending a ton of money in the process.  After-all, our spiritually should leave us feeling whole and wonderful, not left with empty pockets.
