I wanted to post an update on what's happening with our Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives Team. After being selected for the Cafemom Influencer program to collect Yoplait PINK Lids for a donation to be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization we began the process of deciding what would be the best way to collect the most lids.

Together with my Team (and especially with the help of another Cafemom member, LYNDELOU) we decided to do a Lid Drive. We have several different groups doing individual drives to collect lids, some of them being the Scouts, Church groups, fellow Cafemom members and some work related groups. So far, we have a commitment of several hundred lids and some groups have set individual goals as well.

LYNDELOU has been a big help and has gone to several businesses in her area and has put out collection jars and encouraged participation.

LYNDELOU wants to know..."What's in YOUR refrigerator?" This is what is in hers (notice the collection jar next to the yogurt cups)...

Another Cafemom member Jennblossom72, has graciously donated one of her beautiful scarves (handmade by Jenn) to be given as a prize to a Cafemom member. Here is a picture of the PINK scarf...

And, here is a link to Jennblossom72's page, her web page and a journal post about the scarves that she makes to bring awareness to specific diseases...

We also have a cute and comfortable knit cap offered by yet another Cafemom member,  smiley_netta, she hand knits these and has agreed to send one in to give as a prize. Here is a picture (one of the hats shown may or may not be the hat given as a prize), smiley_netta is currently working on some additional choices, maybe a PINK one?

In addition, she has offered to make one (for FREE) to anyone who is going through Chemo and would like a warm head covering this winter! Just send her an email! Here is a link to her home page....

In such a short time Cafemom and its members have pulled together to make Breast Cancer Awareness Month a very special month at Cafemom. I have noticed that many pages have "gone" PINK and many more have some type of tribute to Cancer Awareness or the mention of Cancer. My Mother, Father and Brother are (or were) all survivors of Cancer and I have several relatives and friends who have also had Cancer. It is a disease that affects many of us in many different ways. I am proud to be a part of the Cafemom community in bringing awareness to others and in working towards finding a cure!

IF YOU HAD THE CURE IN YOUR HAND, WOULD YOU THROW IT AWAY?

We also had the privilege of ordering some great Cafemom Save Lids to Save Lives merchandise from the CafePress/Cafemom site to give away. So, we have decided to use these items to encourage more PINK lid donations. To check out the CafePress/Cafemom web site go here....http://www.cafepress.com/cafemomstore/5986153

Linda you have sent chills down my spine showing all the work that you are putting into this Breast Cancer Awareness Post..How great it is that you not only provided links to the Cancer sites , but also showing /and giving out Cancer Awareness Gifts to those of us who send in the most lids.. That sure should give the incentive to those who were just on the edge of thinking " will I save LIDS of not save LIDS ! In saying that I hope that CM members who have pledged to SAVE LIDS TO SAVE LIVES , really do send the lids to the address you have provided..If they chose to send them on their own that is great , but sending them to your address insure that whomever sends the most lids will win a prize from YOU..I think this is so great that your doing this. May God Bless You! I have already joined your team and plan on sending LIDS TO SAVE LIVES..

I am honored to be a part of this, I have made the offer to a few other groups on here as well. I too have had loved ones with cancer and it is one of the diseases I hate the most. It is so devastating to the person with the cancer and the loved ones that can do nothing to stop it. I can not just sit by and do nothing. So when I make the scarf for the lucky winner, please know it is made with love and courage and hope that one day we can finally have a way to completely stop cancer in it's tracks.

Many know I have MS, and when I needed support from my friends for my MS walk, I was overwhelmed by the response I received from my friends ( I too think of most of them as sisters) here at Cafe mom. With the strength of all of these lovely ladies, moms and friends, I was able to walk the mile and then some. I only could have done it with your help. There is no cure for MS, no remission, only the ability to prolong it.  So for me to help in any way that I could, well I had to, I wanted to, and I need to. We all need support from our friends in every imaginable way possible.

So think pink, join a team and walk if you can, you never know what your support in any means may do to help your neighbor, your friend, your family or even a  complete stranger. You can't always see their pain or suffering, but you can feel the love when you reach out to help someone else.

As I've said before, I'd like to have some way of helping out! I still haven't seen any pink lids at the commisary on base over here, and I'd like to feel as though I'm making some contribution. I already have a pink knit hat on the needles! :) I'll be writing a post soon as well.
