Oh boy! What a day.
Doug comes home with a bandage on his finger. The story behind it was not a fun one.
Seems he was cleaning up some instruments after a surgery. This is part of his job...to go into the OR and get the gunky nasty instruments after they are used for surgery and clean and sanitize them.
He is gowned, masked, gloved...the whole thing. Always.
A sharp, bloody instrument snags his glove, rips it and cuts his finger.
He is carted off to the ER. The wound is cleaned and bandaged and he and the patient, who just had surgery, are immedately tested for HIV and the hepititises. He, being a health care worker, is of course vaccinated for everything he can be, but there is no vaccine for some of the heps and the HIV.
What now? The HIV test came back when he was ready to go home. Negative. THANK GOD! He will be re-tested in a few weeks, but they say there is really no risk. The rest of the tests should be back tomorrow.
Chances are slim anything was contracted, even if she had anything, but it's still scary. Keep us in your prayers!

My husband has done the same thing. He accidentally pricked himself with a dirty needle and the lady openly admitted to having hepatitis (sp?). Waiting for the tests to come back was very scary, he had to follow up in 6wks, 6 months and will do a year follow-up this december. I'm glad your hubbys okay!
Yeah, he will have to have all the follow up tests too, but so far so good. I am sure he is fine, but it is still scary.
Oh yes! It is VERY SCARY! Sending prayers and well wishes for Doug.. Love you all! ♥

I'm a medical assistant by trade, and I also pricked my finger thru the glove years ago while drawing some guys blood. It was scary waiting for the tests, and then being re-tested again a few months later. Everything came out normal tho, I'm sure Doug will be fine too...but you can count on him staying in my prayers til we know for sure.
