Hi there all, some of you remember my post about my son Christian (6 yrs old) and his poor eating habits.  Well, 2 weeks ago I spoke with a dietitian named Judy (Thank you Cafemom and Juicy Juice).  During this on the phone appointment we discussed my son's favorite foods he eats, and what foods he doesn't like to eat.  Judy gave me many different choices of foods and drinks to try on Christian beings he is a very picky eater.  I thought I had known alot about nutrician (I'm one of those, I know how to do it but don't do it, type of people), lol, but Judy opened my eyes to alot of different ideas for my son.  My son doesn't like the texture of whole wheat bread products, but Judy told me that there is such thing called whole grain white bread, which we tried and he loves.  She also told me to serve a veg or fruit with each meal and not make a big deal about it, but to have him taste it.  Well, I have been doing this, and he is now a fan of broccoli sauteed w garlic and a slice of cheese on top, lol.  We also discovered he likes a variety of vegetables such as acorn squash, green zucchini, peas, carrots, corn, etc.  One night I made a beef soup, with beef, carrots, corn, onions, peas, white beans, and orzo pasta.  He ate 2 bowls of it, and the more exciting thing about it was that he would take a spoon and analyze what was on his spoon, and he would say, ooh there's white beans and corn on this, I have to try it because it's very healthy for me and it must be delicious. LOL.  Since I spoke to Judy, I have been teaching him about nutrition, and how each food group plays an important part in our body.  Now at each meal, he tells me what each item is healthy, and how he should try it so he can be strong and healthy.  I can't believe the accomplishments that I have made in just 2 weeks.  A few nights I made dinner WITH him, which was also a suggestion of Judy.  One night we made homemade pizza and at the supermarket I told him he can choose which toppings he wants on his pizza.  I told him he needs at least one ingredient from the food groups.  So for his pizza he chose tomato sauce, cheese, spinach (that was a shocker) and Italian sausage pieces.  By letting him chose the items, and letting him help me cook, it made him more excited to eat it.  He ate about 3-4 slices, and he was so proud of his masterpiece, lol. Another night I made rice and beans with dinner, and I let him put the ingredients in the beans, and I told him every 15 minutes to stir it (with me there to help him). So we set the timer for every 15 minutes, and he couldn't wait until it was finished, he was so proud to let the family taste his beans, he called them "Christian the Smart's beans" ha!  Anyway, I know I'm rambling, but I just wanted to let you all know how excited I am on how well Christian's progress is, and pretty soon I think I'll have to talk to Judy to learn how to stop him from eating so much, lol.

I am sending Anthony to your house!!!!!! This is totally awesome, Sue. I am so proud of Christian, and of you for being able to take his eating in this direction! How is the putting the fruit and veggie on the plate? Does he eat the fruit and veggie or at least taste it? I have been using the whole grain white bread for a while, Anthony didn't even notice the difference!

That is so awesome!  How did you find the dietician exactly?  Brandon (my 6 yr old) refuses to eat veggies.  I can get him to eat (if you want to call if veggies...) ketchup, pasta sauce (occasionally), and potatoe (mashed, baked or in a perogi).  I worry about him too.  Any help you could give me would be great.
