Ok so I need to vent here rather than in the group I'm about to write about so I don't start a fight...there will probably be some foul language so if you are offended stop reading right now!

I have read multiple posts about babies and links to obesity.  While I understand the potential dangers of being overweight (duh I am clinicly obese!) I don't understand hwo people can be so uptight about what they feed their INFANTS!

Babies need to gain weight, feeding them cereal is not going to make them obese as an adult.  I don't care what the newest research says...it is all based on my generation anyway and 90% of my generation is obese. (not actual statistic)  We are not fat because our mothers fed us cereal at 3 months from *gasp* a bottle, but because we can't stop shoving fast food and chocolate into our own pie holes!!  Why is it that people follow every single medical trend like it is totally written in stone?  Don't they realize that, oh 10 years ago most of what they are saying now was totally wrong and backwards?  Doctors don't know what the fuck they are talking about (most of the time) that's why it's called SCIENCE!  The fact is, humans have been surviving for thousands of years on nothing but motherly instict.  Why change this now?  Seriously people, feeding your baby cereal in her bottle isn't going to make her obese as a toddler...I'm not even sure there is such a thing as an obese toddler.  Ok I take that back, I have seen the Maury shows where they bring out the 200lb 3year old and discuss why she is so fat...ummm because her mom feeds her nothing but fucking ho hos and lollipops.  Why? oh because "that's all she likes"  There is a difference between stupid people like that who; frankly shouldn't be allowd to breed, and the rest of society.  I do agree that forming good eating habits early is important, my daughter eats several times a day and mostly eats fruit and vegetables, she gets her protiens from eggs and even takes a Flinstones vitamin everyday just so I know she is getting all her minerals and other important stuff.  But I don't think it's necessary to stress out about how much weight your 3 or 4 month old baby is gaining...unless it's not enough, that is usually bad.  I just get tired of people always worrying about the weight of their 'future' child.  Worry about the now, form good habits now and the rest will take care of itself.  Instead of spending every free chance you get looking up the latest "research" try going for a walk with your baby, that teaches them an even more valuable lesson about family time and excersise.  Like I said, proper eating habits are important, but in a child less than a year old I just don't think it matters...I get tired of people worrying about being skinny...as a fat girl, who has been fat since puberty (NOT since infancy!!!) I know the stress of being overweight.  For the first time i am choosing to do something about it, I work out 3 days a week at a gym, I eat healthier foods (and still some chocolate) and I play with my children as often as possible because lets face it, who has more energy than a 2year old?

Well, I think I feel a bit better...so ok let the trash talking commence! (since I know I have pissed off some people now)

Umm, nope, Im not pissed. I think you are 100% right. I fed some of my babies cereal in there bottles and some not. Today they are all healthy, proportionate children who have learned AFTER INFANCY how to eat right, make good nutritional choices and exercise. Maybe some parents who are so concerned with their children's obesity should look at things like fast food, food based rewards and video games. Even educational video games involve sitting on their ever rounding asses...

my son wouldnt take cereal in his bottle, but he was one of those babies that had to have the slow flow nipples or he'd drown himself. he was eating cereal kinda early (as soon as his doctor said his body could process it) and he ate it like a starving rabid monkey! some thing i am getting from you is that fat and lazy are learned, and i totally agree! my hubby and i are both over weight, but are eating better and he has PT every week day and i am getting back in the gym as soon as the doc says my back is ok. we are doing what is best for us so our boy knows that healthy is fun and can be easy if learned early enough. kids under 11 or 12 that are too big have only their care givers to blame, and i hate that parents do that to their kids, i mean why would a 7 year old say no to cake???? not gonna happen! people need to step up and be parents not just sperm and egg donors!!!!

now you got me all riled up and wanting to preach at people. good luck with your healthier lifestyle, never call it a diet because diets are tempory and the results won't last!
