I am sure that most of you are aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I know that many of you have been touched by this disease. Either you are a survivor or know someone who is. Many of us have lost friends and family members to breast cancer. There has been lots of hand joining on this site in support of breast cancer and I think that this is a great way to support other women in this fight. If you have not joined hands with a fellow cafemom, take the time to. When you join hands, read there home page. During my journey of joining hands, I have read some great journals and seen some wonderful family photos. Take the time to leave supporting words for those who have been touched by cancer. It is the simple things we do for each other that can go a very long way in lifting up someone for the day.
If you can do the breast cancer walk in your community, I very much encourage you to. My first walk was 11 months after being dianosed with breast cancer. I remember seeing a "sea of pink". These were the women who had survived breast cancer. Just seeing this really showed me how many women have been effected by cancer in their life. On the backs of everyone's shirts, survivor and supporters, were papers with names listed. These were listed as "In Memory of" or "In Honor of". Wow, what a huge amount of names. Just being part of this scene brought me to tears.
Anything that we can do, big or small, to help with breast cancer support can go a longs ways to help someone. If you know of someone with breast cancer, simply send a card, offer to fix a meal, take her kids to the park with yours, just let her know that you are there for her. It does not have to be October for you to do these things. There are 12 months in the year.
If you do not know someone who you can support, make a donation to your local Breast Cancer Foundation. Every little bit helps.
