I am so excited to see our political system at work.  I love the fact that this election will most likely have the highest voter turn out ever!  I am, however, disturbed at how this election has come down to religion and religious beliefs.  A lot of people are up in arms about how we are "No longer a Christian Society..." well, were we ever?

Thomas Jefferson wrote:

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."

Our country started out as a refuge for those being persecuted due to their religious beliefs.  Yes, these people were Christians, however, they were being persecuted by other Christians.

I think we all need to step back and think for a moment.  Neither candidate is going to stop you from freely practicing your religion.  Neither candidate is going to end the morality of this country.  Let's face it, we have already done that.  Frankly, people need to stop focusing on the religious factors, the skin color differences, and the other non-relevant characteristics of each candidate.  What do they believe politically.  What will they do for us as citizens.   The majority of us, not the wealthy, not big business, not the CEOs and the Giant corporations.  What will they do for us?  Many people are losing friends over this election because they have lost sight of what is truly important.

I was proud too of our country getting involved in this election - the barriers that were being broken - all of it.  I thought it was very healthy for our country, and that only positive could come from it.  That is until it turned into something really ugly.  I think it is so wrong for one candidate to accuse another of being un-American, un-patriotic.  That is so wrong.  Forget the fact that both men have dedicated their careers to public service, both of them, I mean the hell that they go thru for two years campaigning must be incredible.  And then for one to turn around and accuse the other of being un-American is just disgusting.

And now that the honeymoom is over and Palin has been seen for the incompetent that she is, McCain has now reached back into his bag of dirty, lowlife means to try to get back up in the polls.  Now, I am disgusted and pissed off.  We should be talking about the issues that matter for the future, not looking under every rock for something to parade across Fox News.

As McCain says, I am taking off the gloves and not holding anything back.  McCain and Palin and all their mindless followers make my skin crawl.

Well, I can't imagine losing friends over the election ... because again, Im very naive with this kind of stuff and feel like we should all respect each others opinions/differences... my parents brow-beat that into me... so I have a hard time understanding why everyone gets so angry and defensive and hostile talking about all of this stuff..... but as you well noticed after I asked a few questions and got slammed..... I obviously do better sitting on the sidelines with stuff like this LOL......

But see its comments like gypsyuma made about "Mccain and Palin and their mindless followers makes my skin crawl"... I mean was that necessary??????????  Just because they don't believe the same as you... that is EXACTLY where all the name calling and hostility comes from ... ugh... I just don't get it.

"I obviously do better sitting on the sidelines with stuff like this LOL...... "  As do I Terri!  I was just saddened by posts like yours (yours was rather tame!) where people are instantly being bashed for their opinions and called names and what not.  You have a choice just like I do on who to vote for and though some reasons people use for choosing a specific candidate worry me as different ones do you I still think we all have a choice and should be allowed to make those choices without being bashed.  I had to say something because I was seeing other mothers and friends turning against one another for what?  A difference in opinion or evening having an opinion.  Terri, you an I are on different sides but I love that we can be civil and respect each other for our choices without calling names.  I hope others follow suit!

Im thankful for that too girl.  And the way I see is that the person you choose to vote for doesnt make YOU who YOU are as an individual..... It isnt why I befriended you and it would never be a reason for me to no longer call you my friend.  I either lead a very sheltered life or my parents did a really GREAT job teaching me to respect others.. LOL ... I just don't see the need for all the slandering and name calling because someone else doesnt have the same beliefs or opinions that I do.  I honestly had some sincere conerns and questions with my journal... which never got answered LOL because people were too busy calling names and calling me pathetic because I wasnt singing Obamas praises.  Its just frustrating, but what can ya do ya know?
