Women Deserve Better...

I just read one of the planks of the Republican Platform and I just had to share it.

"At its core, abortion is a fundamental assault on the sanctity of innocent human life. Women deserve better than abortion."

It is so exciting to see women being treated with dignity and respect. As a woman, I am so insulted whenever I hear that women need the right to abortion. It implies so many negative stereotypes about women.

First, it says that women are too ignorant to make good decisions prior to becoming pregnant. We are so blessed to live in a country that gives women so many freedoms of choice. We are free to become sexually active or not. We are not forced into arranged marriages or sold into the sex trades like in some cultures. We are free to use birth control. We can choose the men we become involved with.

I also resent being told that women are too immoral to be able to control their sexuality. We are made to sound like an animal during mating season that has no sense of reason or responsibility. We don't just wake up pregnant one morning. We made many choices that bring us to that place.

I believe women are much stronger than what abortion advocates give us credit for. I believe we are capable of putting aside our own needs to nurture the life growing within us. Some women are strong enough to raise a child alone. Others show their strength by allowing someone else, through adoption, to love and raise their child.

As a woman, I grieve that over 500,000 women die a year - aborted from the safety of their mother's womb. I grieve that as a culture, we believe it's okay to use a woman sexually and then throw her aside when she gets pregnant - telling her to take care of the "problem".  I grieve for the young girls who are preyed on by older men and then taken to an abortion clinic to cover up their actions. I grieve for the thousands of women who are consumed by guilt, knowing they ended their child's life. May they find the forgiveness that Jesus offers them.

But today, I celebrate that the Republican party has taken the high road defining not only a baby's right to life - but a woman's right to dignity and respect.

I celebrate that you have the right to feel & speak as you do.  I celebrate that women are free to have opposing viewpoints as well.

I am very thankful for free speech too. Unfortunately, some speech turns into action. And some actions end up in the death of innocents.

Wonderfully written - thanks for posting it !!  This is the core value I have raised my children with and appreciate you thought and time to put it in words!  I to grieve the loss of so many lives never given the chance at their first breath.  Bless you!

Thanks momofsix. It's amazing how young children understand a concept many adults deny. Little children innocently place their hands on your tummy and feel the BABY kick. They don't think you have a fetal tissue growth - they understand completely that it's a baby. No wonder the Bible tells us we have to become as little children.
