I've been doing some reading this morning about how stimulants can calm down hyper children and giving them coffee as an alternative to medications. Has anyone done this? Did it work? Or did it make things worse?

I had a stepson in a previous marriage that coffee calmed down.  His doc suggested we try it because we were against scripts.  Every morning he and I would share a big cup before school.  Since children's systems aren't fully developed, they can have oxymoronic reactions to drugs - like caffeine.  You might try a small cup one day when your child will be home and see what happens.

Brett has a cup every morning before we start school. It does help. He used to be on two different meds and they made him feel terrible. I feel better about the one cup of coffee than the meds for him. The down side is the caffeine headache if he doesn't have a cup.

Yep my youngest daughter has been drinking coffee since she was about 6.  When she was younger it was just one or two cups a day and she was fine with it.  Now she's 16 and drinks as much coffee as I do.
