Thanksgiving and Christmas is coming soon, what have you done to prepare for it?

Or has the economy gotten you down?

Madda...

You know, my mom and I were just talking about this the other day.  With the economy being what it is, as well as our personal finances (hubby finally got into dream job, but beginning salary sucks!  Better opportunity in the long run..must look ahead right?)  we know that Christmas this year will not be what it has been for the past few.  But we decided that instead of concentrating so much on the "gift" aspect, we are going to put more emphasis on the family time, and food, holiday movies, etc.  We always have a Christmas Eve party where we get together with extended family and catch up and exchange gifts.  This year only the little ones will be getting gifts.  The adults are going to bring a favorite dish and several copies of the recipe to exchange instead.  My husband and I do not mind having less money for gifts this year.  We have always tried to teach our children the real meaning of Christmas, and to emphasize that while presents are nice, family is nicer.  Thanksgiving for our family is just an excuse to get together, eat, and watch football.  So we will do that no matter what the stock market does!

Great question!!  Thanks...Maddy

We have a Christmas club and that has saved us from running up credit cards.  My husband puts 40 dollars every two weeks equals $1000 Christmas money.  I usuallty spend $1500 but my husband doesn't want to up it.  Says he can't afford it.  Of course, it doesn't make sense.  It costs what it costs.  I don't want to negotiate a cheaper Christmas with my family because they will believe I am just cheap.  We plan to go to NC for Thanksgiving and  that may break the bank this year for us.  I think it's worth it though.
