I just cleaned out my purse yesterday (er...actually, ALEX cleaned out my purse; I just decided what would and what wouldn't go back in.  My wallet made the list.  The half-eaten lipstick...not so much).

So for the most part, it's just bare essentials in there.  The aforementioned wallet, a bottle of midol, makeup (both the stuff I wear and the stuff I don't)...but the weirdest "essential" I have has to be my Dummy Book.

Since becoming pregnant with Alex (and before, and after, and...oh ok, my whole life, dangit), I've had a tendency to forget things.  Lots of things.  Ok, EVERYTHING.  I find little ways to adjust.  A list by the front door of all the things I have to have with me when I leave the house.  Reminders from my Outlook (when I remember to open it) and from my cell phone (when I remember to grab it in the morning, and when it's not dead because I forgot to plug it in).  Routines, routines, routines.  It helps.  A little.

One of my attempts to get myself organized resulted in the Dummy Book.  Basically, whenever I have an idea I don't want to forget, or remember something that I need to do, but can't at the time ("Oh, I need to call my mom, but it's 6 am."), I'm supposed to jot it down in my Dummy Book, so I can flip through it and take care of all that stuff whenever I have free time.  I cross things off as they get taken care of, and it gives me a sense of satisfaction.

Only problem is...I haven't remembered to even OPEN the damn thing in months now, let alone write in it.

Ah, yes. Do what I do. Make a list for your list. Sometimes I do the post it to the forehead trick....

I know exactly what you are going through! For me, it's relatively new though. I always USED to remember what Ineeded to.. sometimes, I could remember the ENTIRE grocery list, for a whole two weeks worth of groceries! Then... came the meds. The meds I am on for my back and all those issues.. they are like "forget it" pills. Now I forget EVERYTHING from what I needed at the store, to buying things for the kids, to even.. alas.. paying bills. Is it any WONDER I am going to have Murphy control finances? lol

And yeah, I'd forget the book to. So.. my cell phone, which is the ONLY thing I never forget, has my calendar, chock full of things I need to do, and I even need to write down things like "Call sister's mom".. someone I adore! It's so sad... :(

My dummy book is a pocket calendar that is always in my purse.  I still forget things, but I;m sure not nearly as much as I would without the calendar.  When I was taking Topomax for migraines I forgot my address. Really.  I had to call my daughter because I couldn't remember the house number or the street number.. DEE DE DEEEE!

I did that today, Crystal!  Some coworkers and I were looking to see if our homes were visible from google maps street view, and I went to type in my address, and drew a complete blank!  I remembered 1305, but thought "No, that's an old, address, right?"  Then I remembered that it's 1304, but couldn't remember my street name, and when I did, it took me several tries to type it in right.  I don't have any drugs to blame, but I DO have hormonal influx!

Oh, I completely understand this! I am the QUEEN of lists. Without my lists, I would just wander around of room to room muttering to myself and wondering what I'm supposed to be doing.
