There are a number of places in Livingston, Alabama, that are haunted. Not just private homes but also public places like The University of West Alabama have their share of spooks and spirits.
Among the buildings that have paranormal activity at The University of West Alabama (UWA) are the Julia Tutwiler Library, Bibb Graves Hall, Webb Hall, Brock Hall, and Pruitt Hall.
There have been a number of odd things happen at the Tutwiler library from things going bump in the night to a misty fog in one of the offices downstairs at the library. There have also been a number of sightings and one of the campus police took early retirement after seeing the apparition. It is said that this is the spirit of Julia Tutwiler, herself, but there could also be another reason for all the strange occurances. This is the story I was told......
There was a spinster teacher who lived on the upper floor of Webb Hall a very long time ago (the 1930's). At one time, Webb Hall was a dormitory and Ms. Foust lived there for many years after she retired as a professor. The university hired a new provost, Dr. Lyon, and he vowed to get rid of all the old maid teachers living there. This resulted in a sort of feud between the tiny Ms. Foust and the provost. Ms. Foust picture hangs in the Tutwiler Library. The ghostly activity did not begin in the library until a picture Dr. Lyon was hung in the library in 1995. It seems that their feud has continued into the afterlife.
Spectral fingers gliding through the hair of librarians at the front desk, an antique wheelchair propelling itself out of the second floor conference room, books falling off shelves by themselves and cabinet doors mysteriously opening and slamming shut are just a few of the ghost stories from the Tutwiler Library. A female spirit, probably Miss Foust, who frightened both a student and a security guard on separate occasions is the most disturbing story. The security guard saw Miss Foust's reflection in the glass doors of the library. She was standing behind him. The security guard retired that year from the University. It is said that the experience still haunts him today.
At Bibb Graves Hall, employees have reported seeing the elevator moving from floor to floor, hearing the sounds of footsteps - and one former student reported hearing demonic laughter when no one was around.
In Webb Hall, people have reported smelling lilac perfume and seeing a female figure in a petticoat. The comptroller and the Director of Purchasing have both smelled the lilac perfume and the comptroller has caught a glimpse of old-fashioned white petticoats. My contribution to this story occurred, November 1, 2006.....the day after I went on the Ghost Walk on Halloween Night. So that you will be familiar with my work surroundings, our offices were the old guest apartments so each office has a bathroom in it. The senior advisor and I currently share an office. I was sitting there telling her all about the ghost walk and the different places in Livingston and on the campus that are haunted. I had just finished relating the stories pertaining to Webb Hall when the commode in our bathroom flushed. I know that my eyes got at big as dishes. I turned and looked at her and flippantly stated, "Well, the least they could have done was close the door first!" I thought about that statement for a few seconds and then told her, "If that door closes, I am out of here!" I don't know who was more surprised....the senior advisor or me. I called one of the maintenance men that I know and ask him if there was any possible way that the commode in our bathroom could flush by itself. He told me "no" that the type in our bathroom could not flush by itself! The worst thing is to be working by yourself in that building on the weekend. I couldn't begin to tell you all the strange noises and bumps that you hear while you are alone in your office.
Brock Hall and Pruitt Hall have a spirit that has been seen by several people. The spirit has been seen walking down the hall and disappearing into the wall at the end of the hall.
Who knows . . . maybe the spirit from Webb Hall has come home with me a time or two and that's why my bath cloth ends up knocked into the tub when I shower or it could explain why I hear something falling (always spooks not only me but the dog and especially the cat) but can never find what it is that fell . . . .

Thanks!! I don't know if you are aware, but my 19-year-old has cerebral palsy, and does not walk or talk at all. He doesn't watch scary shows (unless you count pro wrestling). One night, about 3 months or so after we moved in here, I had everyone to bed, except me. I was looking out the kitchen window, because deer are all over the place. I heard my son make a sound that chilled my soul. It scared me soooo bad. I had socks on, and went running and skidding into his room. He was wide awake, shaking, and staring at the wall next to my bedroom. He had a terrified look on his face. I have never seen him like this before. I calmed him down, while I calmed myself down, because at first I thought he was hurt somehow, and then started asking questions. He answers yes and no, so I asked him if he saw something. He said yes. I then asked if it was a person, and he said yes again. By then, the hair on the back of my neck was standing up, and my skin felt like it was crawling, you know? He just kept staring at one spot on the wall. I turned his lamp on, and I asked him if he wanted it left on, and he of course did. It was a long time before he would let me turn the lamp off at night, and he still sleeps with his t.v. on with no volume.
Ever since we moved in here, I have thought more about ghosts and things. I can't explain it. I even had a nightmare one night, and it scared me so badly I had to sleep with the light on too. The strange thing is, this house has never been lived in by anyone but us. It is a 2005 new construct, but I don't know what was up here before that. I just really feel like there is something here. And there have been a few times when my dog will start barking like someone is at the door, but when I check no one is there. He scared me one night doing that while I was feeding my son. And he has started getting spooked outside at night when we walk in a certain area of our yard. I don't know what is going on, but we didn't have these problems at the other house we lived in. Sometimes I wish we hadn't moved!!

Oh, gosh, you are going to have me covering all my mirrors at night!!!! I have a -not really fear, but uneasiness-about looking into mirrors at night. I can't really explain why, but I have been that way a long time, but it's worse in this house we moved into 1 1/2 years ago. I have a story about my son, would you mind if I add it here? It involves this house.
