I was told by medical staff approx. 15hrs after DD was born that there was something wrong and they didn't know what it was. DD was then taken to a larger hospital about 1 hr away, (no one was able to ride with her either) while I had to stay back "home' and wait to be released. Once released and reunited with DD I was told she had a congenital heart defect and the current hospital isn't able to do the surgery. So DD was flown to a bigger hospital yet (and once again no one was allowed to travel with her) this hospital was about 3hrs away. I then wasn't able to hold my new born daughter again until she was 2 weeks old and that was only for a few mins before open heart surgery.
Needless to say for awhile the first month of my daughter;'s life included the scariest moments for me. Thankfully because of the medical staff at University of Michigan hospital my DD is alive today and if you didn't know she had a problem you never would. (this was my first baby by the way)
