Only a Housewife

Too many times women are made to feel they should apologize for being mothers and housewives. In realty, such roles can be noble callings. When I was on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania, there were such gatherings from time to time to which faculty members brought their spouses. Inevitably, some woman lawyer or sociologist would confront my wife with the question, "And what is it that you do, my dear?"

My wife, who is one of the most brilliantly articulate individuals I know, had a great response: "I am socializing two homo sapiens in the dominant values of the Judeo-Christian tradition in order that they might be instruments of the transformation of the social order in the teleologically prescribed utopia inherent into the echelon." When she followed with, "And what is it that you do?" the other person's "A lawyer" just wasn't that overpowering.

A little background on me: It took two year to have my DD blessing.  One miscarriage and many false alarms!  So worried about raising my DD.  I did look for a daycare, but it would cost me almost all of my paycheck.  Leaving me $20 for gas and whatever...... so I decided that I can do what is  best for her.

So having said that:  My DD one year when she was in elementary school  told me that she wanted me to work so she could do the take your daughter to work day.  I said I work! But then I said I am the CEO of this household. That there is a partner her dad   Yea she took the day off with me and wrote her paper on the CEO of the M household.  She told me that the kids were jealous that she got to go to Micky Dees and NOT be back at a certain time,  That she could sleep in...... the teacher told her that she thinks I was a creative mom and told her to ask me to see her.... I got a job working at the school... nice hours plus  a little extra money for the household and for  those special meetings at Micky Dees....

In fifth grade the worst happened, her parents partnership ended.  She got to got to work with mom but it wasn't the same as the CEO day........ but I have the best of the younger years to raise my DD and we are very close.

From the time she was 8 years old if you ask her want she wants to be when she grows up she would answer a SAHM!  More power to her!!  Yea even in high school she would write papers on that same idea....
