My two kids 5 and 9 came home today and said they voted at school. That is cool. I remember doing that in school:) I asked who, Charley (9yrs old) voted for and he said the black man. Mikey ( 5yrs old) said I voted for the black man also. That's cool. All my friends on here know I am NOT racist in the least but I do want to know what they were taught in school about the election for Charley to say he voted for the black man because there should be a black president. I think that is a stupid reason. I don't think at that age they should be told about this stuff in school anyways. They are to young to worry about all this and learn about this stuff. I emailed his teacher and asked what they were taught for him to say that. It really bugs me he said that. I had to explain to him that you do not vote cause of race you vote because of what they will do for the USA.

I had to add there is stuff about both of them I do not like and NO I am not voting so me wondering all this is not about who I want in office. I think either way we are F8cked for the next 4 yrs:) JMO and I am aloud to have that!

I NEVER voted in school...it never came up.  I have NO idea why schools are doing this now.  Not GRADE schools certainly!  I can see doing it in Government class in high school...but in GRADE school?  MIDDLE school?  That's just indoctrinating our youth...nothing less.

Makes me sick.

I didn't vote in school either. I think they try informing kids about it now, because they don't get it when they are in HS. Early programming I suppose. I think it's good to teach them how we vote and why we vote. BUT to have your kids come home say he voted for the black man because we need a black president is pushing it. Race isn't the reason to vote like you said, it's who's going to actually stick to their promises and fight for that.

I agree race isn't the reason to vote.  BUT I'm so glad they are teaching this  in the schools so young.  My 4 boys are voting in school today....even my just turned 5 yr old gets to vote!  Actually I'm taking my 5 yr old with me today when he gets off the bus to go vote.  He is very excited about it.  I'm not sure exactly how indepth stuff is taught at school but my older 3 have come home talking about some of the issues in a very basic way.

I also had my dd (5yo) come home saying she voted for the black man. She didn't even know his name. I just wish they would wait until middle school when more kids have a better understanding of what goes on in the world. That way, they can come home and have intelligent discussions with their parent(s).

You are right. Race is NEVER a reason to vote. I also agree that this election was the lesser of two evils. I went off my gut feeling, and I am really hoping that its right, and we really get the change this country needs.
