Matthew wokeup last night w/ a night terror.

He starts running down the hall.  Crying.  Unable to be consoled.  Sometimes he throws himself onto the furniture and then runs back down the hall.  Last night he was running down the hall back and forth while screaming.  It was like he's sleep walking.

Whenever he does this I have to wake him up.  For some reason he seems to be fine after going to the bathroom.

Matthew's had these night terrors since he was 4.  I really thought he'd outgrow this.  I hope in time he will.

Last night I had my own sort of night terrors.  Not sure if the cough medicine helped induce odd dreams...or if it was just an odd night.

Now that I'm writing I can't remember what they were about other than just being bad.

My son use to have them also....I prayed and asked God to give me wisdom in how to help him.  I prayed through his room and played praise and worship music in it day and night....at night before he went to sleep I would go in and pray over him....he never had another problem with night terrors...

Wow, that is pretty scary!  My boys haven't experienced them, yet.  What does his doctor say?

Good luck, Kim.

My daughter had night terrors when she was little.  The doctor said she was actually having a nightmare but sleep walking through it.  You are not suppose to grab them just keep them from falling down stairs or getting hurt.  When  my husband would pick her up, she would fight him as if he were the monster in whatever nightmare she was having.  She would yell for her dad and he was the one holding her but to her he was the monster.  I remember my doctor told me to put a pan of cold water in her running path and when she stepped in it, it would wake her up.  I never did that because I was afraid she'd break her foot if she stepped in it.  I just followed her funning path, making sure she didn't get hurt and eventually, she would just end up falling asleep somewhere, strangely enough, mostly right in her bed.  She grew out of it after a while, can't really remember exact how long.  She was about seven or eight and she is now twenty three.  I hope your child grows out of this soon but, meanwhile, just follow him so he doesn't get hurt and then guide him back to bed when the nightmare is over.  Unfortunately, if you try to wake him, he won't realize it is you, he will think you are whatever scary thing he is dreaming about.  He is basically sleep walking through a nightmare and acting it out.  Dreams do not last long so it shouldn't last long.  I don't know if there are new or more modern remedies for this since this was years ago for me.  I'll pray for you.
