So some of you might have read my earlier journal post about my bad ER experince with my Caitlin and her foot. If you did not read it the short version of the story is that Caitlin fell off the monkey bars on Saturday and hurt her foot. I took her to the ER and had a 5 hour visit where they x-rayed her foot and the ER doc said there was no break and basically told me he thought Caitlin was faking it for attention and there was no way it was broken and sent us home with nothing telling me to let her walk and it would be fine. Thank goodness i did not listen and when she was still in agony I called her pedi who had the x-rays re-read and the ortho doc saw a break.
So, today we saw the ortho doc who
said she had a BAD break on the bone that sticks out on the outside of
your ankle. He said it is a crack that goes into her growth plate. He
called it a Salter Harris Fracture. There are 5 categories 1 being the
least bad and 5 the worst and her was a level 2. Some level 2
Fractures need surgery especially if they are not casted right away and
they begin to heal wrong. But, luckily right now it looks like she
will not need surgery and the cast should let it heal right. If she had
of had to have surgery cus of that ER cod there would have been hell to
pay!
Anyway, I am relieved she finally has a cast on and is feeling better. She has been on tylenol with codiene cus she has been is so much pain. It still hurts some, but she says it feels much better having the cast on. She can start walking on the cast Friday. But for now I have to carry her around to give it a few more days with no pressure on the foot.
Thanks for all the advice and prayers. And of course her cast is bright pink! She wanted rainbow but doc said more than 1 color is hard to do on a foot. So i bought rainbow colored perminate marker to decorate it with her after her nap. And she wants everyone to sign it in rainbow colors too. So here are some pics of my brave Caitlin with her cast! I will have to post the decorated vesion after. I sure it will be a master piece! LOL!

It is so nice to finally see her smile again! She has not done much of that since she hurt her foot!

That cast looks big on her little body!

Finally looking relaxed after this whole ordeal!
Comments:
I am so glad she does not have to have surgery! I hope she has a fast recovery!
I am so glad that you followed your "mom"dar and called the docs back to re-read the x-rays!!!
I HATE the ER. I'm so glad the Children's Hospital here in Denver has urgent care hours late nights and weekends.
she is so cute she makes me laugh...that smile just makes me so happy ..but iam sorry about the foot..but catlin just cracks me up
Stupid ER dr. I was told whenever I had xrays that they had to be reread later anyway, sometimes even taken like a day later because a break can show up later, and not right away!
I read your post about her falling, but I didn't see the one about the ER.... I would probably leave a message for that dr if I was in your position.
I am so glad she is eghting some pain relief and smiling again!!!! Good for you for making sure about things!! I hope that doctor gets a stern talking to and some retraining! Innocent children do not deserve to suffer because of ignorant adults!!!! I love the bright pink color-should look pretty decorated too!!!!

OMG!!! Stupid ER doc!!! What an idiot!!!! I can't EVEN imagine the pain she was going through. Well, I'm glad the ped dr. got her set up and on her way to healing. I'm glad she has a smile on her face. Nothing worse than to see your child in pain or being sick. You did good mom!!!!
