Quit being a lazy parent!
My blood is boiling just thinking about how disrespectful children have become today. These kids didn't just wake up one day and decide to go against every law-abiding rule. These kids learned it somewhere and that somewhere is in his/her own home. When you allow your child to show such disrespect to you, the parent, how do you expect them to grow up and become productive citizens in society?
My child is FAR from perfect. He is a very, very strong-willed child, but I will never tolerate him to show such disrespect to me or to any other person. Especially adults. I'm sick and tired of seeing articles and news reports about children shooting others, harrassing others, attacking others. I'm tired of seeing questions such as, "What has happened to today's children?" I'll tell you what has happened, we all became lazy parents.
More and more am I seeing parents who feel guilty when they make there child do chores, or give in when they want to stay out later than his or her curfew.Children need structure, they need rules and they need to be taught values. Parenting isn't easy, especially when you are a single parent. I know that most of us do the best that we can, BUT this is our future. Why would you give more attention to the way your house looks or how much money you make (believe me, I've seen it)? Our children are our one thing that we can look back on and say, "this was my GREATEST accomplishment."
TEACH your children RESPECT! Keep a close eye on what they are learning in the home. Be involved in your children's life and DON'T feel like you are intruding or being a nuisance. They'll get over it.

Oh I agree with you so much.....and with that said, I must say my child is so strog willed as well, and it is difficult, espically being a single mom, but truthfully, who else is gonna do it? I have to...and alas my kids must learn to listen and respect....
