When I was a little girl we lived differently then most and my fathers Opinions were different then most. His best friend was Black and his buddy from work was spanish. My fathers friend from work I did not see as some spanish guy but the guy my dad worked with that made me laugh and was magical cause he pulled coins out of my ear. I looked at my dads best freind as a nice kind person who would watch football with my dad and crack jokes which I did not get cause I was a kid. LOL! These Relationships has lasted a life time to this day there friends. This is how I was taught to see the world. When I was introduced to prejudice I did not understand. I could not see the views of people who would tell me that I was different from another and I should not be there friend. It was devasting to me the thought that I had to not be friends with someone because they were different then me. I went to my Dad and asked why this was. How come I cannot play with my friend because she was black. My Father looked at me and said Do you believe that is true? He said Dana I believe that one day your friend could do great things in the world. even be president. I believe that you can do great things in this world maybe even be president! In your life time you will see alot of things but I believe as long as you do not let people change you, your good heart and spirit, that in your life time more people will believe what we do. That every person white, Black, Spanish or what ever there race is capible of greatness. I believe that in your life time you will see this. Last night we all witnessed a Great moment. and what we all need to understand is that it is us that achieved Greatness every man and woman who crossed the barrier of racisim to elect our 1st Black president to have the belief that all man is capible of greatness. Was the achievement of our nation as a whole. I am always proud of our Country and from this day foward I will always be proud of you!

Your father gave you some encouraging words and it takes a strong person to not let others break their spirit. Very few are still in the hatred stage with mankind, but if a majority of us as American people will pass along that we all are one human race, we will overcome and break the barrier of what seems to be the impossible. Blessings to you and your family.
