My daughter is in second grade and she wrote this essay about her veteran great grandmother who passed away October 24, 2007. She may be one of 2 lucky children to read their essay out loud at city hall on Veteran's Day!

Here is a typed version you can actually read: (I'm so proud of her!)
What Veteran's Day Means To Me
By Amanda D'Amico
My GiGi was a marine. She was a patriot and loved her country. She was a tough woman. She was a marine even though she was born with a bad hip. She had surgery when she was 2 years old and had to be in a body cast for 6 months. She had to have her hip replaced when she was a grown up. After the marines GiGi went on to raise five children. She even raised my Mimi and my great Aunty Robin as a single mother during their teen years. GiGi led a very fulfilling life after her years in the marines. GiGi always called me "Peaches" and I was the only one with a nickname! She was loved by many people. She always put others first. When Gigi passed away on Oct. 24, 2007 she left a huge loving family to remember her. She has five children, 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. GiGi is very special. I celebrate my GiGi on Veteran's Day.
