Not just a hat rack my friends

Well as most of you know, my 4 (almost 5) year old dd Bree had to start Speech Therapy earlier this year.  We finally got started the end of March 2008.  When her initial eval was done, Bree had 47 errors out of a possible 67.  NOT GOOD!!  She was speaking at less than 2 year old level - she had just turned 4.  So I was warned that she would spend several years probably in Speech.  I was ok with it, I just wanted it fixed.  The speech Therapist is absolutely wonderful with her.  Bree loves going to see "Mrs. Angie".

It took Bree a while to get the "F" sound right, but she finally did.  Then we had Summer off.  I worked with her frequently throughout the summer - I didn't want her getting behind.  So we started going 2 times/week this school year.  Well she continued to fly thru her sounds.  So I asked to have another "informal evaluation" done, just so I could see the progress.  Hallelujah - she had 12 errors out of 67.  12!!!!  She is now speaking at a level of 4 years/3months.  Most of the errors had the "R" sound and "R" blends (br, tr, etc).  So we are still working on the "TH" sound and have started the "R".  The Speech Therapist is probably going to discharge her at Christmas Break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  AAAHHH~~~  I am so happy.  I am so proud of her.  She has really worked hard to improve.  The Speech Therapist wants me to keep working with Bree and her "R" sounds and she might see her again after she starts Kindergarten next year.  She (and many other professionals I know) say that the "R" sound usually doesn't develop until 6-7 years old, sometimes longer.  So Mrs. ANgie isn't concerned with that sound at this time.  YAY.

So yeah for my baby.  Although I do fear Paxton will be starting after he is 3.  He has developed the same issues Bree has.  Oh well.  Way to go Bree!!!  I am so proud!

ADDED:

While Bree is practicing her sounds - she has to make sentences with tyhe words.  Here are my 2 favorite sentences that she came up with all by herself:

Word "flower" - Sentence - "I see flowers at the graveyard" LOL - not a flower garden, not outside, but a grave yard.

Word "father" - Sentence - "I call my father daddy"  LOL!!!

Oh another funny.

The other day I laid Sarah in the floor and gave her one of Bree's soft cinderella dolls to chew on.  So I go to the kitchen and a few minutes later, Bree comes running in and says "Mommy - Sarah CANNOT chew on this - It's made in China!!!"  OMG - it was.  So I took it away from sarah and got Bree's approval before giving her something else to chew on!  LOL!

Well I kind of suspected a problem with her speech, although I didn't think it was as bad as it was.  I mean I could usually understand her.  But I sensed that Speech would be in her future.  When I took her to her 4 year check up the dr noticed her speech.  When I found out the programs that are available thru the school system I immediately called and had her evaled.  It's been wonderful.  She really only had the months of April, May, August, Sept, Oct, and Nov - so she did in 6 months (longer only if you count ME working with her this summer) what they thought was going to take until about 2nd grade to fix.  If you think Sarah may need some help - call the school system she will be going to.  The can eval her now and let you know.  I know Paxton is going probably going to need Speech, but I am going to wait until after his 3rd birthday.  I don't want to wait as long as I did with Bree.

Yay Bree!!  That's awesome that she is getting it so quickly.  I've been suspecting that Hayden (my 3 year old) may need speech therapy too.  He has trouble with R, K, C, V, and L.  We've been working with him at home and the doctor says she thinks that's enough, but I don't know.

I love what Bree said about the toy made in China, LOL.

well I don't know Bree but I think that's great (and funny but amazing about the doll).  Isn't it great how they pick things up?

LOL!! How funny that she knew a toy made is China was NOT to be chewed on, ROFL! Cute kid!

I am so happy that she made tremendous progress in her Speech Therapy. And I'm sure if Paxton has to go in too, he'll progress just as well. Yay Bree!!
